for my english coursework i'm writing an essay comparing Frankenstein and Paradise lost, the essay is centered around Frankenstain however, what these could I use? I wanted to use revenge originally because it works well for Frankenstein but not so much for Paradise lost.. then i thought about Defying the law of nature/God but i haven't discussed that in class at all and i'm a bit nervous about it, any suggestions? thanks

(First of all, are you doing all of PL or just Bks. I and II?)

What puts you off 'revenge'? One of Satan's motives is revenge against God. The monster/Frankenstein relationship could be compared to the Satan/God one, especially since, if I remember correctly, most of the Miltonic language in Frankenstein appears when Frankenstein is arguing with his monster (on the glacier?).

If you want to do "Defying the law of Nature/God" that will also work quite well, I think. It's a big topic but you'll get lots out of it. What are your ideas, and why are you nervous about going there?

For suggestions, the main one I can think of is the responsibility of the creator towards his creation. That might be a bit too much though, and will be impossible if you're only doing Bks. I and II.

thanks for the reply, i'm planning on using things from the whole of paradise lost, i as a bit nervous to use revenge because i wasn't sure how much i could write on the subject, Frankenstein is full of it and although PL has quite alot i wasn't sure.. with the Defying the law of nature/God i just wasn't sure how it would turn out and seemed to be a bit tricky to write alot about. I think i'm going to go with the theme of creation anyway, there's tonnes to write about there and i can also incorporate your idea of the responsibility of the creator towards his creation. thank you!
