Is it something you can do permanently, or at least for a long period of time? I mean, something which you can apply to do for longer than two weeks, whilst you're looking for work, or not working?
    Or am I just stupid?

I thought you get called randomly to do it. Don't think you apply for it.

    No I know,
My Mother has been on a case for a few weeks now after being called to do it.

But it's something I'd love to do for a while, say during breaks etc :/

You finish, once called up, either after two weeks service, or after your case is finished.

It's not something you can choose to do, but it's something you cannot legally refuse without good reason- although if you get it whilst on a course, you can change the date to holiday times or when your courses finishes.

I've no idea, but you can not apply for Jury service. This might help.

Haha. Chances are you'll end up on a boring fraud case anyway.
