Hey, I am thinking about going this program which is "behind the scenes" of the camps. I was wondering if any of you have been on it and if you could share your experiences?
    I have a few questions....

They say they take care of your flights, do you get a choice of when you return? I was wanting to travel after wards, perhaps a month or so, would the visa restrict me on time?
I read that you get days off, is it like one day off a week? And also will you be placed in the middle of nowhere? cos I would like to see places on my days off.
Do you get a choice of where you are placed? And typically where are the camps?

Thanks in advance for any comments .

    Bump.

Also to anyway that has applied to any of the BUNAC programs...when it say's "what time are you availble from" what have you put. As my Uni won't let me know my exam timetable for a while....I know the latest date my exams will be (late June)...however I am likely to finish earlier than that (last year I finished mid-may as did most other people).

Yeah i know what you mean i didn't know what date to put so i just put June 1st. I finished my exams last year at a similar time to you around the middle of may, so i am just assuming they will be around a similar time this year? i could be wrong, but if it becomes an issue i will just ring bunac and explain the situation, they seem friendly enough.

I just spoke to BUNAC and they said put the latest date you are availble and you can change it later if you want. Wish Uni's would realise dates earlier....mine aren't gonig to be doing so until the end of March!

    Hey Mint(and anyone else interested!)

I did the KAMP programme last summer in Maine, North-East USA. As regards to your question about camp locations, I talked with a few people who were allocated to camps in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, but most are in and around New England!

I can only speak about my own experience but we got one day a week off (compared to other counsellors who only got 4 or 5 days off for the whole summer) and the camp arranged a bus for us to go see different sights in the State. We visited beaches, theme parks, hiking trails and even went shopping at the Mall one week. They really do look after you and if you want to request to do anything in particular, I found the camp directors were always more than accomodating!

The way the flights work is that you tell BUNAC a date you want to fly home in advance (for me it was the day after camp) but you can change it at any time when you are there, so I decided to travel for three weeks after and BUNAC changed it for me no problem(I think you have to pay something like £50 to change it but it is WELL worth it to travel).

Anymore questions just let me know!
