I'm thinking of buying a new TV but I'm worried about whether I'd be able to bring it with me to uni in September.
As you can't really use wall mounts in student accommodation, could you comfortably fit a 40" in your room just on a stand? Either on say your desk or
    draws?

Having seen the rooms in Leicester, where I currently am, I can safely say you're better off trying to fit an elephant into your urethra.

I had a friend who put a 50'' in his room last year. I could have in mine, but I would have had no space on my desk

    LOL!

You might be able to fit a 40" in, I have seen it done but desk space might be an issue. All depends on the halls.

    Get a 32" anyway.

I've seen some of the nicer rooms on campus in Sussex, e.g. Swanborough, and a 40" would definitely not fit :/.

EDIT: Well, it might, but you wouldn't have much room left on the desk for anything else!

I had a massive room last year and fit a 42" plasma on mine, along with a 22" lcd monitor though it dominated the entire desk.

It all comes down to room size and extra room, i.e you may need to buy a computer desk for your pc if you use the tv on the desk.

My friend has a 32'', it fits well. He's got a ****loads of cables on his desk but there is enough space for the tv.

I could fit one in my room, but it would take up half the desk and block half the window.

Thinking about it, I guess I could fit two in my room.

Depends on the uni halls...doubt you would've been able to fit one in the halls I stayed in in first year! (Hunter Court Uni of Birmingham)

So it's really a question of deciding between using desk space for work or entertainment. Hmm I guess I wouldn't do any work if I had the TV anyway so that wouldn't be a problem .

lol no. Maybe you could've gotten it on my desk, but then you would've had to watch it from about a meter away from the screen which I'm guessing will ruin the effect a tad =P

I easily could but it would look oversized.

    28-32" is your best bet.

I know this dude who has :erm: My accommodation in particular is massive. My neighbour fit a Queen sized bed, a double seater leather lounge, the 40 inch LCD TV, a mini refrigerator and still has space. he kept the tv on a separate chest of drawers....
