I work for the NHS at my local hospital as a Ward Clerk. I sort out all of the filing, appoints and other admin work on my ward.
It definitely wasn't easy to get my job. Firstly, I had to apply to the job online and write what was basically an essay explaining how my retail experience applied to the job's personal specification. I was then invited to take a numeracy and literacy test. On passing the tests, I was then subjected to interview on a panel of a Deputy Sister and an admin worker.
A week or so later, I found that I didn't get the position I applied for, but I was put on a reserve list. A few weeks after the rejection, I received a phone call from a Ward Manager who'd been let down by her original Ward Clerk and then found my application amongst the other reserve candidates. She invited me to the ward to have a chat and I told her that I definitely wanted the job.
HR then had to sort out my CRB check and I had to have vaccinations and my blood taken for tests before I was even allowed to start work. I also had some rubbish Trust inductions and IT training.
I'm now nearing the end of my six month contract and I'm quite looking forward to doing nothing but playing Sims and doing my college work!
