Anyway, I'm wondering how many TSRians are interested in this kinda thing. I know we have a lot of, avid, readers so perhaps this would be something to consider.

It would take the same format as any general 'book club', as in we would vote for a book to be chosen and be given a time limit to read that book. As opposed to discussions being forced, think of it as more of communal reading. All things "communal" are fun, yeah! (Apart from communal showering...) Discussions would hopefully ensue and we can all choose another book for next month, or something along those lines.

Primarily, this would be for people who would like to read new things, don't know what to read, like chattiness or, like me, need some real motivation to read otherwise you won't do it.

I don't think there's been one recently, certainly not as a 'group' :ninja:

Sounds like quite a good idea. Count me in if you're doing it! I usually read loads of books, but due to school work haven't been doing that much. So this might motivate me.

      hey guys

I still really want this to go ahead, but I don't know if we should try and get as much people as we can?

so this post is another bump ... but give it a few more days ... or people can start suggesting ideas for books that they want the club to read (anything goes :ninja: bar erotica, obviously ).

      Meh, it's educational.

More seriously, I would recommend A Case of Exploding Mangoes by Mohammed Hanif.

      NO TWILIGHT.
Now that you've confirmed the proposed ban on Twilight...

      Can I play please?

Will updates remain in this thread or...?

      Update

Right so . We've enticed enough members for this to, hopefully, become a success! YAY!

So now we need nominations. Any person is allowed to nominate as many books as they want (though, bearing in mind that the more nominations, the more chance the votes will be thinly spread-- resulting in a failure), so no more than two. If we can get a few more nominations, then I'll see if I can add a poll or something so that we can vote in a couple day's time.

The books themselves shouldn't be too specific (i.e. require a degree in Latin), and should be accessible from libraries, and/or cheap from Amazon or whatever. So no ancient, lost Byzantian manuscript scrolls.

Genre wise, be as creative as you can. Drama, short stories, "graphic novels", may all be possibilities. I'm sure we won't mind reading new things and new styles, since that's what reading should be all about. The books themselves should elicit some sort of discussion, I'm assuming most books would naturally do so, so I guess what I'm saying is that the books shouldn't be dull or really superbly crappy. Twilight: no. Crappy Woe-ridden Teenage Angst books about Broken Nails: no.

      I'm excited for this :teeth:

For now, but I'm wondering whether we should create a social group for this? So that, if this does run on, we can have individual threads all placed in a neat shiny place :teeth:

Nomination added, but when I first saw your post, I linked "erotic" to "mangoes", and thought you were suggesting some type of porno.

EDIT: I nominate The Handmaid's Tale
