    Pokemon Soul Silver.

You'll generally enjoy it more than Heart Gold.

you know they are near enough identical they just release two versions to make more money the only difference is around 5 different pokemon will not be included in each one so you have to get both versions or have a friend to trade with to get all the pokemon

Pokemon Emerald - me and my friends had a whale of a time on this game! Just a few of us competing endlessly for various Pokemon battles/trades with each other, the golden times...

But as you said, long plane journey; go for Pokemon Diamond. It's awesome!

Pokémon Yellow for the Gameboy Colour will ALWAYS be the best Pokémon game, imo. The very best. Like no one ever was....

Do you only have a DS? I would say HeartGold or SoulSilver - it doesn't matter which one you get if you aren't going to be trading or anything.

Ah, this was my first pokemon game. :awesome:

It was so annoying that the first pokemon you get is a Pikachu, but then the first gym is made up of rock pokemon. :nothing:
Oh my gosh, I remember the pain of that!

    I loved pokémon yellow =D

But as that's not one of the options I'd go for HeartGold or SoulSilver, more traditional Pokémon games! However, I didn't mind Mystery Dungeons either...being a pokémon was a novelty!

Red Version for the Gameboy Colour was the first pokemon game I got. Still remains my favourite!
