How much roughly do you earn in an investment banking summer internship?

This is assuming there is some sort of pay.

Greenhill analysts get paid street comp (base+sign-on+bonus) but they also get equity in the company.

Then again, summer internships at GH are only five weeks, right?

JPM IBD was 44+1 last year. Was the highest I saw, but I would imagine some pay more.

    Are you serious?

Just after first year university, for a summer internship, 44k?

Summer internships are generally for penultimate year students (people finishing their second year in a 3 year course, or 3rd year in a 4 year course)

Thanks where do you get these figures from, if you do not mind me asking?

I had an offer from them last year (not investment banking though)... but it was the same internship salary, apparently.

You should be happy you live in the UK.

In Belgium, BNP Paribas, for instance, pays 7euros per day! And applicants MUST be enrolled in a Master programm.

    Nice one.

Just learnt thats it is £42k per annum, not for the summer internship alone. Thought they might be offering some sort of magic package to attract the best for the future.

Does not seem like that much money now.

I swear the whole of Europe can apply to these internships?

Haha sorry I should have been more clear. It's 42k pro rata plus 1k sign-on at the start. I think average is about 39/40+1.

Is there a difference between front and middle/back offices then? I say this because I have seen the contracts for a couple of my friends in Tech (DB CS and JPM) and they are 36K pro rata (summer intern).

So I'm assuming all these numbers in the 40K region are for the high flying front office guys!

Agreed. And most pay a 1k sign on.

Barcap is usually the highest, averaging out at around £1000 a week (if you straight-line the sign on over the 10 weeks.)

I think Industrial Placements/12mth internships are again paying pretty much 1st year analyst salary for the year. Mine is £42k for the year at BarCap, I guess it's around the same everywhere else (although I know Nomura is £35k, and only £28k(!) for Ops).
