Is being sponsored by a company at undergraduate level a realistic possibility?
If so, how would I go about requesting a sponsorship deal?

Depending on your course and your relationship with the company, yes. Larger engineering firms in the UK do this as to a fair few companies related to business (accounting, finance, marketing etc).

The norm in this case is that a student has worked at a company for however long, maybe even just a summer internship, and has found out that the company has a sponsorship scheme (usually easy enough to find out from the corporate website or from HR if you work there). It will involve signing a contract with the company to say you will work for them after (and maybe during) your studies if they agree to sponsor you for X amount of money.

I assume it is possible to obtain such a sponsorship without working for the company first but I wouldn't be surprised if the company offered sponsorship/scholarships to internal candidates over external ones.

The easiest way to go about obtaining one is again dependent on your situation. If you work for the company already, have a word with your manager or with HR, someone should be able to point you in the right direction. If you are an external candidate for the sponsorship, have a look on the company's website for details on the funding (it will be there as company's who offer these schemes will want everyone to know they are investing in students etc etc). This information should include details of how to apply. If it doesn't, ring the company or send them a formal yet polite email enquiring about it.

Could you provide any sort of list of possible companies?

I am looking to study Mathematics with Computer Science, I appreciate my getting sponsored for this course is unlikely, but I'm willing to look still!

    Help?
