Multiplying out

Why has the - disappeared ?

If a=bc0.5a = bc^{0.5}, then a2=b2ca^2 = b^2c

Does this help?

If not, rewrite the negative sign as -1 explicitly

Well βˆ’(1+3x)14=(βˆ’1)Γ—(1+3x)14-(1+3x)^{\frac{1}{4}} = (-1) \times (1+3x)^{\frac{1}{4}}. When you raise both sides to the power 4, the RHS then becomes (βˆ’1)4Γ—[(1+3x)14]4(-1)^4 \times [(1+3x)^{\frac{1}{4}}]^4, and since (βˆ’1)4=1(-1)^4 = 1, the RHS simply becomes 1Γ—(1+3x)1 \times (1+3x), which is just 1+3x1+3x.
