Edinburgh vs Leeds vs Cardiff?

I have received only three responses thus far but I need advice. I'm in America so I don't know the first thing about how these schools rank up except the ranking charts I've seen which are all different.

I'm studying International Business and Japanese (or whatever they call it at each school--it's all the same course, really).

Which is better...Edinburgh, Leeds, or Cardiff? And while I'm at it, where does Sheffield rank in there? (Still waiting on Sheffield's response).

I need all aspects--academics, student life, city life, etc. Any advice is good since I might not be able to go see the schools.

All 3 are lovely are far as I know!
I think I might be off to Leeds, lovely place with a great atmosphere!
If you can afford it, the best thing to do is visit!

I can afford it but there's a time issue..I'll be having surgery and might not have the time to get over.

The thing is, Cardiff came back with a conditional acceptance that's a *lot* harder than Leeds and Edinburgh. So I was thinking they either don't really want me there or they're some incredible school and I didn't realize it.

In any case, I didn't really care one way or another about Cardiff, I was just stunned by their requirements.

Can't tell you about the course specifically...but on general reputation it would go..

Edinburgh
Leeds
Cardiff

Although there isn't *that* much between them.

All very good unis.

Yeah that is how they are generally ranked. Although the courses might be better at one or another ie not in that order . I've heard alot of people globally brag about Edinburgh so maybe that is the most well known reputation wise. There really isnt a great deal to seperate them anyway though.

Oh, apparently the social life at Leeds is *amazing*, loadsa fun there!

I'm surprised Cardiff gave u a higher offer, (maybe they thought that you were applying to oxbridge and didnt want to be used as an insurance?? i dont know). Although maybe you are applying for one of their highly rated courses...

I'm surprised as well. I sent in my applications after the Oxbridge deadlines so there's no way they suspected that. But my essay, simply by the way I had to phrase my course name since every school calls it something different, might have made them think they were a second choice school. It also seemed to indicate that Edinburgh was my top choice...which it is.

Yeah then they probably suspected they were not a first choice and didn't want to risk being an insurance choice (a right pain in the butt for any uni).
Oh you asked about Sheffield before, as said there isn't that much to separate them, but I imagine Sheffield to be on the same level as Cardiff.

Since Edin is your top choice and, well you've got an offer...Congratulations

I don't know much about Edinburgh or Cardiff, but I can tell you all about Leeds!

As far as I can gather Leeds has a good reputation for Business, and has a relatively new Business School (its all shiny and new and looks like a church!) I think the languages department is quite good as well but I've only heard that from my friends studying languages!

The majority of the student housing is in Headingley and Hyde Park, about 20 minutes walk from uni, although a couple of the first year halls of residence are about 5 miles away from campus. Quite a lot of the more recent first year complexes are en-suite now and are full kitted out for internet access (if your prepared to pay for it obviously)

The city itself is supposed to be one of the fastest growing in Europe, which has its good points and its bad points, ie, fantastic night life and shopping but some areas are practically slums and it can be a bit intimidating when you first arrive.

If I can be of anymore help, PM me. x.
