The Student Room Group

I spend too much time in my bed with my laptop on my lap...

I don't feel good when doing it, but on the other hand I am soo addicted to it, that I can't live without it. My parents are telling me to not sit all day and only use laptop 24/7.

I mean, I don't have anything to do except that. Is there any idea what I could do, that is more healthy and makes me more active and all?

My parents and my brother sit in the living room together and watch tv and all, but I don't like the shows they watch. Actually I don't like to watch tv at all? I am always the one hidden in my room and completely isolated from the world.

I really feel bad about it. How can I get rid of this habit?

Sit at the table or at a desk when you're on your laptop then.

Your cracker problems ain't ****?
I have no idea. I have this same problem. My parents always watch soaps and stuff, and I really don't like it, so I'll watch my own shows on my laptop (such as House etc) but this is so anti social. I'll stay downstairs and watch the news, but once Emmerdale comes on, I'm out of there like a shot.

I dunno what to suggest. I think its unfair to suggest you force yourself to watch their TV. Ermm... go and read a book downstairs sometimes?

Get a job.
Take up a sport or a dance class.
Read some classic novels.
Go to the pool.
Go ice skating.
Go to the local theatre (you can see a play for a couple of quid).
Go for a walk in the park.
Go for a bike ride.
Take up a new language.
Write a story.
Draw a picture.
Do the laundry.
Try a new recipe and make dinner for your family.

And get someone to hide your laptop for a while. Only use the main family PC (or someone else's laptop) to check your emails until someone starts nagging for their go on the PC.
Try getting involved in some sort of sport/activity?
Start a spamfest on TSR, get banned and you'll find that your laptop time is significantly reduced

Try going outdoors. Get active with a physical activity or a job ! Sell off your laptop or else just spoil it on purpose...
omg same here and i feel like **** lool, will be taking a break from here i think tomorrow
If I'm not out/working what ever, I'm in bed with my laptop on my lap. Always. I'm not really 'welcome' in our living room, so I just sit in my room alone 24/7. The laptop also keeps me warm

Get a desk?
Keeping a laptop on your lap for too long makes you temporarily infertile...who knows what the log term impacts are!
If you're a lad anyway....

Find a corner and read. Read the greats, read the poetry that speaks to you.

Create art. Listen to music, but not as a background frame, listen to it and only it and do nothing else. Try that. Then create art, go for a walk, read philosophy, research cultures of other continents. Look at the clouds, look in the mirror, into your eyes. Spend time exploring museums, galleries, libraries and photography. Find your own culture. Watch old movies and create scrapbooks. Try and see the world through children's glasses and adopt a curious nature to ideas. Save up your coins, find a special recipe that jumps out, then make an effort to find the specific ingredients and cook it for the family.

Whatever you do, don't fester your life away and end up regretful.

I don't know why I care, but please.
I heard if you put your laptop on your lap all the time the radiation will damage something in your body and there's a possibility that you wont get pregnant anymore.
Im not sure if that's true though.

Exact same problem. My mum, dad and sister all sit in the living room watching TV and I am in my room, on my laptop, listening to music etc. I am actually like pretty much an outsider in my family.

Learn to play an instrument, I suggest piano or drums
This place smells of roasted gametes to me. :frown: Poor them
EDIT:
Apparently everything in life is risky, and can be fatal,
even if you sit on the sofa with your laptop,
you can get radiation and die,

TRUE!!

If you have a somewhat social life, then there's nothing to worry about. Why feel bad, you're not hurting anyone.
