another problem (School Dance)

I’m sure some of you remember the yr 9 dance topic I posted up a week ago, well it turned out not too bad, I danced a little but I didn’t do too much and I didn’t meet anybody I liked there, so it turned out all right but now I have another problem, well it isn’t really about me, it was about my friend who came to the dance, he met his primary crush and now he loves her, at the dance he wanted to start a conversation with her but their were too many people around her including boys and so he didn’t go and do anything and I attempted to tell him to go or else he’ll regret it, but with his thick head he didn’t do anything and now he regrets he didn’t do anything. He needs help now, and he’s really depressed now and has a slight idea of suicide, I’m so scared he will really do that so please help, this is long but this is the history of him and her:

He loved this girl nearly as the expression goes “love at first sight” her name was Caitlin. It wasn’t till I think he was in yr 5 he had the guts to tell her that he liked/loved her. When she found out she didn’t really say anything which hurt his feelings a lot but still he was determined to keep trying. He tried pretty hard at her and whenever there was a school dance he always asked to dance with her. He thought he was getting close to her loving him but he realized she liked 2 other people who were as he says complete idiots. This hurt him a lot and he thought of giving up on her. I think during one of those day’s he was talking with her and laughing and having a good time and then that night he was talking to Caitlin on msn and she changed her name to I LOVE LUKE! He thought she really loved him but she was very shy the next day and forgot all about it. Caitlin’s friends always wanted him and Caitlin together and so they helped in many ways but it never happened. Then Caitlin moved to high school and so he. Luckily he knew where she went and realized she wasn’t far away. In year 7 my friend did not at all think about her and also in year 8. But on Friday there was a year 9 dance as some of you will recall and we found out that her school actually coming and so his hopes were up. It was the week leading up to the dance that he started thinking about her again. One the night of the dance he saw Caitlin and quickly fell for her again. He wanted to start a conversation with her and say hi to her but he shocked to see her surrounded by other guys all night. He now is sad and depressed because it looks like she has a boyfriend. He even kept looking at her to pull her away but she never did, and now he regrets it.

I hope this didn’t bore you, it is a bit long, I hope you can solve what I should do to help him or what advice I can pass to him from you guys. I hope he doesn’t suicide.

Hmm - a tough one!

If she has a boyfriend then that is probably it - at least for the time being. Really need to find that one out before he goes any further.

If she is still single, he could always try phoning her, say he saw her at the dance but didnt get a chance to speak, and perhaps asking her out for lunch - just as friends, to catch up with each other? Then take it from there.

The friends angle is a good one to work. But he is really going to have to try and move on. As difficult as it may seem.

I agree with Tim here. Year 9.....? That would mean your friend is probably 14? My sister's in yr 9. If she started going out with some guy in her grade, I'd wonder why. 14 is quite young to worry about such things. You wrote something about your friend talking about suicide? When you're young, you like someone different every week!
