Like a guy with a close female friend - should I just give up? Watch

I'm interested in this guy who lives in the same town as me, but worried that his close female friend might get in the way. They seem to spend every waking minute together. For e.g. when I texted him on Christmas Day they were out playing some game with his kid brother and sister that they got for Christmas, then she went to his family's for Christmas dinner. I texted him later in the day hinting I'd like to do something and although we texted back and forth for a while he didn't invite me round. Yesterday I texted and he was with her again, watching a movie, and didn't want to get together cause he had to work today. But other times when she is working late and I get in touch he always seems keen to do stuff, although he invites her along most of the time.

To make things more complicated, this female friend kinda admitted to me that she really likes him and would like to make a move. The only reason she hasn't done yet is that he only recently split up with his girlfriend of a few years. Should I just give up now? Although he flirts with me, it seems like she's the one he wants to spend all his time with. Do I try and ask him out before she does, or cut my losses?
