I'm thinking about having the flu jab this week - I'm not in a 'high risk' group, so I'd have to pay for it rather than get it on NHS. The reason I want it is because I lost a bit of weight recently due to stress so I'm guessing it may have weakened my immune system slightly - also I'm beginning a job where I'll be commuting to and from London by tube.
Anyway anyone here had it? Any side effects or anything I should know about?

I've had it. No side effects, didn't even hurt when they did it. It does take two weeks to work though, so even after you've had it you might still catch flu in that time.

To be honest, I'd say it's better to be safe than sorry, flu really isn't nice! Particularly if you're going to be using the tube a lot, as people are so cramped, flu spreads more easily.
However if you don't want to pay, there are other ways that you can decrease your risk; carry a bottle of that alcohol hand rub and use a little when you get off the tube, and every so often just to clean your hands. Also try not to touch your face with your hands. Soo many people catch flu from touching a surface and then touching their mouths.

I haven't had it (and I am in a high-risk group... ) but different people report different things with the jab, and it's not always consistent: one my father had a couple of years ago made him very ill, this year's did nothing except a bit of swelling.
