    Hi,

Basically I need some opinions. I have a BA degree in management and human resources, a PGCE in Business and Economics and 3 years work experience in HR / IT.

I'm currently looking to complete a PhD in Human Resources / Organisational Behaviour at a former polytechnic university that is local to me. I have interests in teaching, leadership coaching and research / consultancy.

I have two questions which I would value some opinions on:

    1) Will obtaining a PhD in said area help me to progress my career in the said areas. I will be 28 / 29 by the time I complete it so ideally I would want to make use of contacts I develop during the course to move easily into a post doc position or a position as a researcher earning reasonable money in industry (I'm not looking to get rich, but I would like to earn something a bit more prestigious than the usual entry level jobs in HR admin circa 18 - 25 k)

    2) Will it matter if I complete the PhD at my local former poly? I'm a fairly homely type of person so don't really want to move too far from my family and friends, although of course I do want to ensure I can obtain a suitable position once I complete the course.

    Any opinions greatly appreciated!
