    Hi!

In January I have my History module, therefore I have a question.

What paragraphs would you suggest in the essay:
Why did Britain followed the policy of appeasement?

I will have no problems with constructing this essay as I am aiming at 90%+, nevertheless I am not sure how should I divide it.

    1. The bemoaned condition of the British economy after the WWI and the Great Depression?
    2. Genuine belief in effectiveness of appeasement?
    3.
    4.
    5.

    Thank you for the responses.

I would also add in a paragraph on the British military as many would say it was not strong enough therefore appeasement was necessary. It could be a bit of a long shot but maybe have another paragraph on Chamberlain who was pretty adamant on being the great peacemaker. His obstinacy and personal drive meant he surrounded himself with yes men, Lord Halifax being one of note.

Another possibly would be to talk about Germany and their intentions. It would be tough to argue since Hitler was very much hellbent, for lack of a better word, on destruction but there are numerous points during the 1930s that Germany declare they are only seeking to expand into the east and not threatened proceedings to the west, i.e: France.

I would mention the fact that in the 1930s Hitler was much more of a lesser threat than the fear of communism spreading to the west and the danger of Stalin the leader of the USSR to peace in Europe. Many thought Hitler as the last frontier to the threat of communism if it tried spreading to the west because of his hatredgy and persecution of communists.

I would also mention the relucancy to repeate the horrors of the first world war and acting against Hitler without America since America was still very much of isolationist view.
