I'm looking to do some volunteering next summer in Africa hopefully. I've looked around at various companies but was just wondering if anyone has any advice? I want to make sure I'm really going with a good charity rather than just a tour operator. I will preferably like to work with either children in an orphanage or with people with HIV/Aids. I will have about 10 weeks, however will probably only volunteer for 8 weeks so I have time to prepare for uni!

I'm 17 and just spent a month in Kenya with an organisation called 'Touch Africa' - they are great for first time travellers as they look after you so well!
I was volunteering in an baby and infant orphange, but they do all sorts of projects - including medical, teaching or construction!
They are very very reasonably priced compared to so many other organisations! Lets not forget that the price you pay includes accomadation, food and in-country support!
I can wholeheartedly recommend them, and am already planning another trip with them soon! If you have any questions about them/ my experience with them, just message me!
