this phrase is always thrown around on forums and internert, yet in real life, the sober ones (rare) in clubs/parties usually look bored as fuuuck, they think all the drunk people are annoying and act like party poopers and usually leave early while everyone is partying till late....

just what i've noticed, have you ?

What has become of society if you actually need to become drunk to have fun. :facepalm2:

A bit of alcohol - fair enough, but to get absolutely wasted? Well, if you get liver disease, that's your fault. (Not implying everyone who regularly gets drunk will get liver disease).

I agree. I've had the misfortune of being the token sober at a party before and it's no fun sitting watching all the drunk people have fun and talking crap, thinking 'that could be me.'

The Student Room is renowned for being the world's most densely populated with virgins and losers web space, so it's inevitable you have a few bitter Barbara's who pretend they enjoy not drinking. They're the type who just meander around TSR making sarcastic comments for cheap rep and overusing the '' smiley; - a sorry existence.

Making a lot of assumptions there aren't we?

I've done club photography whilst almost stone cold, it's pretty grim. Seeing people pulling especially can be quite nauseating, some of it is basically sexual assault where guys prey on drunk girls. I have to quite drunk in a club or it just irritates me, I definitely realised I was feeling faintly disgusted by peoples' states of inebriation.

In contrast I think house parties could be good if a few of your mates were there, it's funny running rings around drunk people verbally when you're sober.

I have a friend who proves it right. Though his idea of fun is taking advantage of all the drunk girls.

You can have fun without alcohol but you'll have more fun with it.

Being the sober one can be quite amusing, because you can see people doing things they wouldn't do normally, but mostly it's annoying and boring. It's not so bad once you've had a drink or two though..

Meh. I like a drink, but I don't enjoy getting drunk. I do have more fun at parties after a few beers/whatever, but I know my limits and I tend to fall asleep before I get too drunk, anyway. I guess I must be boring

This proves that guys can have more fun sober.

I don't drink and I also find parties thoroughly unenjoyable. I've no idea how anyone could possibly enjoy them while sober.

I definitely have more fun when im sober at clubs! I go to dance and socialise with my friends and there is nothing worse than drinking so much that you feel sick and have to sit down for most of the evening!

If I go to house parties though and everyone is drinking then I tend to get a bit bored though!

I don't drink and I find nights out really enjoyable. It's probably because I spend pretty much all the time on the dancefloor though.

It's indoctrinated into the British ethos because we're generally reserved and emotionally inhibited. We've always drank a lot for that release. Nothing has 'become' of society - don't talk rubbish. I for one am riding the tradition. Alcohol makes things more fun at parties, and there's not many qualifiers to that statement.

i don't think i've ever been to a party where everyone hasn't been at least slightly drunk, being that everyone just shares their alcohol
but i do think it's important for me to be able to have a great time with my friends when both sober and drunk; because at least when sober you remember those fun times!

I don't drink a lot, but I've never been drunk. I know my limit. Tipsy-ish is more fun.
