I got this netbook for Christmas and today I turn it on and it stays on a black screen with a white blinking underscore. I'm not sure what to do??

Looking at the box, does it say that it has an operating system on it, like windows etc?

Strange.. was it sealed when you got it?

you might need to ask whoever bought it to take it back

    You could try this:

    - As the netbook is turned on, immediately start hitting F8 a few times (or until it beeps or a menu appears), then choose Load Last Known Good Config and/or try safe mode using the same method.

I would do what spikeymike's saying. Boot it up in safe mode and then just restart it.

If not insert the boot disks/recovery discs that you should have got with it and see what happens.

By what you're saying, it seems that the OS isn't present or is corrupt.

It's a netbook, it has no CD drive.

Although probably some form of recovery partition.
