    ..put the screen to sleep?

I know you can manually set a time of inactivity to result in the screen going to sleep (under powersaving) but I want to find a keyboard shortcut to do this instantly.

Anybody know how to do this?

(btw I'm not talking about 'locking' the screen but instead the screen going black).

Don't really get you what you mean - you mean like turning off the monitor while leaving the computer on? If so, wouldn't it be easier to manually press the button to shut down the screen?

or do you mean putting a computer into sleep mode?

Well, anyways... check THIS out, might be what you're looking for.

    Nice solution.

On a laptop, having this sort of functionality is rather useful when on battery power, I can do it with Fn+F3 on my Thinkpad. On a desktop, probably less useful as like you say, you can just turn the monitor off... but binding it into the Windows+L keystroke to lock your screen is a decent feature to have

Microsoft would do well to incorporate that as a built in feature, actually - automagically turning the screen off say 10-15 secs after locking the screen.
