It's not that slim actually. I have noticed a fair few that go to mine...
Maybe we are all just computer nerds with no social life in my college.

i've applied for the sixth form at King Edwards Five Ways but i'm really nervous about the interview, so i was wondering if anyone who previously did one at this school could give any tips and say what type of questions they ask.

thanks

I'd say they generally ask the same questions, even though I don't really know. I have some in spring too.

It's actually quite likely, considering it's one of the top schools in England's second city.

I didn't go there, but friends of mine did and they all seemed to think the interview was nothing to worry about once they'd done it. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful with more specific advice though I know they had subject specific interviews.

Five Ways? Seriously? Should have come to Camp Hill.

Camp Hill Boys at Number 12
Camp Hill Girls at Number 22

Where an earth are Fiveways?

Edit: Ah, seem to have found you: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/education/education-news/secondary-school-league-tables-the-top-50-grammar-schools-at-alevel-523588.html

Camp Hill Boys at 6 on this one, Camp Hill Girls at 8...and Fiveways at....12. Point proven. Not saying it's a bad place to be, just saying Camp Hill's better.

 Yes because posting a table of A-level scores makes camp hill a better school than fiveways. I went to the open even of both. I prefered fiveways because of the facilities, staff and general atmosphere. Camp hill was dry and boring imo. Both schools are good in terms of academics. But fiveways seemed better to me.

That's your opinion then isn't it  but academically, it's obvious there's no competition.

I go to 5 ways, and I applied externally last year, just like you are now.

First of all, don't stress about the interview, they really do their best to help you get over all of the nerves. The interview consists if three parts, 2 subject area interviews (which can be for any of the a level subjects you have chosen), they really just want to see that you are passionate about the subjects and that you will handle the workload. Then you will have an interview with a senior member of staff (mine was with the headmaster), and they will try and see whether you are committed to the school, and that you can handle 5 ways life. A tip - show interest in their extra curricular activities (such as debating, or charity work), as that really tends to impress them.

If you have any more questions, just message me back, and I can give you my email address - any questions regarding the school in general, fitting into "5 ways life" or general subject areas and teachers, just let me know!

Hi there! I've applied to both Camp Hill Girls and Five Ways and I was really impressed by both-I just got my reply for an interview next week on Monday. I've kind of prepared for what kind of general questions they might ask. I do take an interest in taking part in extra curricular activities, but there aren't many clubs running at my school and which I never really the motivation to join. Nontheless having looked at the wide range of activities to offer and since the guide who showed me around the school during the open evening pointed out that everyone's highly encouraged to join clubs, I seriously would like to take part.

I just wanted to ask in the two subject discussions the letter mentioned that there would be a short exercise, is the meant to test your ability in your chosen subjects?

Can you please let me know if that's the case
thanks

p.s-my A-level choices (in order of preference)- chemistry, biology, mathematics and physics.

thanks again.

What questions did they actaully ask at the interview?
I'm an internal at Five Ways 6th Form haha.

Ironically my mates volunteered to help with the interviews today lol

hello I am going to the interview as well, and it could be much appreciated if any internal pupil can "leak" some information out. I personally feel very stressed out in any competitive situation.

Hey
thanks for the reply
my interview is on monday and i'm just worried about the type of questions they will ask in the 'activity' in the subject interviews
wondering if you could give any clues for that
I'm taking biology, chemistry, German and History

Hello anyone notice there will be a "short exercise" by the physics department before the actual interview...Was this a proper test, do you have to get like full marks to get into the school... I am very likely to do very badly no matter how good I am because I can't cope with nervousness with such pressure of doing a test in the school... :frown:

Yes you're right, there's no competition. But one shouldn't chose schools on academics alone.
