Someone I know thought LGBT was a sandwich filling  and another one thought it was a recruitment agency. But not that kind of filling :colone: ... or agency

As a native of Portsmouth, I certainly hope there is, and I will be at the next meeting.

Yeah there is! There is an lgbt society to help introduce you to the gay scene in portsmouth too. So no need to worry yourself lol

Go to the LGBT society. Also, there are two gay bars, Martha's and Hampshire Boulevard. One is just past the union and the other is at the top of Commercial Road. Alternatively, come meet me because I'm straight but have many gay or bi friends x

What? Are you stupid?

Surely everyone has heard of the lettuce, gherkin, bacon, tomato sandwich...

Didn't you know? Portsmouth has been voted 'Straightest UK Town' for the past 5 years.

They don't allow a single homosexual in. Border controls and everything. You have no chance.

hampshire boulevard? never heard of it :O

to OP: I'm in the lgbt society myself, i left a while ago, mainly because i'm me and dont get on with 99% of people, not necessarily because of the people in it, but I did get kinda bored of the celeb-talk, **** programs they watch, and other stereotypical interests gay guys seem to have, which seem to be fact in this society... Not so with the girls though I'm sure you'l be pleased to know  They are a nice bunch though and plenty of lesbians there that seem really nice, although I really do doubt the presidents 'professionalism' when he gets involved with alcohol... it can occasionally get ugly on a night out :/ .

The society also go to student pride in Brighton every year which I believe is usually around late april, where you can see loads of half naked men and women marching on the streets which apparently helps to raise awareness. They also have other events like bowling/cinema nights, night out in southampton are the ones I can remember. There's about ~70 members in it altogether if you want an idea about its size, although only about 10-30 bother turning up to meetings/nights out.

There's 1 main gay bar in portsmouth that I know of, Marthas, with a pub downstairs and a night club upstairs. Gets pretty boring after a few times but its cheap, and has £1 a drink mondays (my favourite  ). There's also HB and The Old Vic next to st. pauls which I don't think are officially gay bars but just call themselves "gay friendly" but it's mostly the gay crowd that are there on a night out. The gay scene isn't that impressive here unfortunately, the gay bars I've been to are a bit crap and play the same music each night...

Just a heads up, Martha's has now shut down, there are 2 bars which are pretty much opposite each other, Hampshire Boulevard and The Old Vic, Both have good atmospheres, very friendly and welcoming to anyone what ever your orientation but are predominantly gay bars.
