ESPS and language requirements

Hi all, I'm looking at ESPS as one of my choices for next year and am confused as to their requirements. The problem stems from thefact that I don't have a foreing language at A-Level (I have German at GCSE). can some please outline to me what choices I have? As in is there any chance of being accepted without a MFL at A level, and if sowhich languages can I take?

Thanks for the help, I tried looking on their website but couldn't get a definitive language.
Your answer is here: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/esps/prospective-students/languages.htm

You may major in Italian, Russian, Dutch or one of the Scandinavian languages.

Am I allowed to take German? It says on UCAS that I can, but the opposite on their website. Bit confused.

Yeah, I heard German was becoming ab initio too but the website doesn't reflect that. Best to email the department and check

Thanks for the help, one last thing - Would I be at much of disadvantage for not having a MFL A Level (Even for the ab inito courses)? Also, does the competition differ depending on what your specialization is, i.e. are those for Economics and Urban planning competing for the same places? Or are they handled seperateley?

thanks again for the help.

i don't really know the answers to either of those questions. there's always some people who get in with no language a levels (i didn't have one, nor any lang gcses either) but although as far as i know they don't exercise a preference i couldn't say. as for specialisations, you only properly choose your humanities specialisations in second year so no. the competition differs between language choices although again by how much i could not say. email the course admins if it's essential you get answers to these questions although my main advice would be to relax. we always ask these kind of questions before applying but they're of limited use in reality.
