True. I just have to say, bless one of the mathematician's (Zhaog or something?) from Trinity, he was trying his best. The computer science student hardly spoke, and the girl for English (Kiera Knightley lookalike anyone?) was poor on the humanities questions, which obviously the rest of the team were looking at her to answer the most of.

However this week I do think it was a combination of Trinity being quite bad with Birmingham who were excellent. (Except the chemist... "alcohol?" Did he really just say that... its ethanol you idiot!)

The girl in Trinity was Lintott. Evidently she has already developed her own internet fan club.

Loving University Challenge.

As a current AS student going into A2 Chemistry and really considering studying it at Uni - maybe Imperial or UCL, I found it funny that they didn't know the Chemistry question - I was proud that I did.

Also, quite chuffed at the gun question from last week with the AK-47, M16 and FAMAS, I think. I guess all that time playing Call of Duty helped...sort of.

I was ashamed I got them wrong. I mean I do history at university now but I studied them reactions in detail last year and just couldn't remember the names. :frown:

For me, the university announced that it was forming a team and I acknowledge that you are interested via a very short online questionnaire. I was then given a date, time and place that I needed to be at and some guy asked me what would probably be my specialities. Then he asked me a series of questions which I had to say the answer to (as in, it wasn't written)
Then a few days later they selected the team they wanted to submit to the show, where I think there was one or two more activities to decide whether the show was going to take them on (I don't know exactly as I wasn't actually part of that) So yes there is some sort of preliminary round which isn't on tv, but I'm not sure if it's actually competitive.

In different universities it will be different, I know that in the past Warwick have set a written paper as their first selection process. Also the online questionnaire may be exclusive to lancaster, just as an easy way of getting responses to the original email the SU sent me.

Definitely go for it, you've got very little to lose - if you don't get through then it's only ten or twenty minutes or your time lost.

At my university, there were two days when the SU, held a quiz (you could go to either) and so they formed a team from the best out of them.

I've applied twice, and was the reserve member of a team that got through the first time, but had to pull out because the filming dates of the finals (not that we got there) clashed with my exams. In our common room we had a written quiz, and the team of four that combined scored the most points, plus a reserve, were picked. Then we went to a different college for the preliminary round - there we had to do a written quiz, each of us answering it individually. Then they interviewed us as a group for a bit, then we got told we were on.

Cheers people. I'm definitely going to give it a shot now.

She is going to Worcester this coming year on a Year Away from Brown to do English. So theoretically she could be in the Worcester team should she apply and be accepted. Wouldn't that be something.

My English teacher went to Clares. I want them to win (I'm also considering applying ^_^ )
