Yes, i find i can think of the answers best if i look away from the screen during the questions - seeing their faces puzzling and straining puts me off! However it's great to watch the panelist's faces during the music question as that's usually a picture of strain and abject puzzlement!

Hahahaha. I dont even try to answer the questions because I know I wont know the answers!! But sometimes when Jeremy or the contestants give the answers something clicks and I say to my mum "I knew that!!!!!" and she usually says "Why didnt you speak up then?!" or "Well done"

Out of interest, is it unlikely for a first year student to make a UC team?

I always imagined that it would be.

No more than any other years. One of the teams I met during filming was pretty much exclusively first years (iirc their captain was a 2nd year and that was it).

Excellent news
Thanks very much!

Does anybody know if there's a list somewhere that says what team is playing who on each Monday?

I have no idea why my ex hasn't gone up for the team for this yet at his uni, he used to get like 200 points per episode watching it at home  I felt pretty inadequate :emo:

No comments so far on this week's - were we bored, or doing other things?

The Durham team were really funny. "Who was Dora's dog in David Copperfield?" - "Toto". LOL. Paxman was witty as well.

Was it the first-ever appearance for Plymouth? Don't remember seeing that team on the show before?

Durham won with ease. I had a pretty poor performance (everyone plays along right?). 13/14 correct answers but missed some really obvious ones :facepalm2:

Idk about first, but after that performance it might be their last!

That said, the Durham team were pretty sharp.

It would be fun to see a table of the highest scores ever - there isn't one on Wikipedia, it just says that UC Oxford got 520 once. Although the opposition was weak, i am looking to Durham as possible winner this year after that, they are very very sharp. 325 is impressive.

does anyone else feel that France from Durham needs a proper slap?

Was he the one on the end? If so, yes.

Awww. I think he was quite sweet, like the young mascot of the team. He was a bit puppyish and smirky.

I hope not.

I have a deep hatred of Durham ever since they rejected my application.

Yes, definitely needed a good wallop. Smug, smug face and then that look/drink of water when he gets a question right :haughty:

I got negged. Presumably by a Plymouth student :colonhash:

With all due respect, Plymouth got massacred. It was a shame as two study at Peninsula medical school.

This week wasn't so great for me, but I once answer sixteen in a row, much to my dads annoyance who got up, left and muttered that I was "cheating". I hope to go on it in the future, but I dint think I'll have the time as I want to study medicine.

It says on Wikipedia that Sussex got 10 points in 71/72.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_Challenge#Lowest_scores

I remember some team (a couple of years ago - was it an all-girls team from Oxford?) who languished on -10 for most of the programme - after quite a while they got a Starter for Ten and Paxman said "you've now surged up to zero points".

Haha I saw highlights of that - Paxman started celebrating when they got it right. I think it was an all-girls Cambridge team actually.

Just missed out on the uni challenge team this year - hope we get to the final again and win it though Magdalen last year were supreme!
