Don't the words "university challenge" count as lyrics?

Does someone sing them while accompanied by the music?

Whether the words "university challenge" were sung is debatable. I feel their monotonous indifference leads them to be very harmonious indeed. I therefore conclude the UC overture is indeed a song.

You can see why I got a B in music can't you

If you had been able to identify the difference between instrumental music and songs you might have got an A*.

I do not understand a single question asked on that programme, but sometimes I like to pretend its me that's answering with this really obscure answer and getting applauded.

Fun times

did anyone think Melia for York did really well last week against UCL? A one man encyclopaedia? A veritable fount of knowledge? An 'intellectual blitzkrieg'? ...anyone at all?

lol yeah... he's my brother.

My friend from school was the one on the far left of York's team on Monday...he failed to mention to me that he was in the team, was quite a shock!

I attempted to get on Southampton's UC quiz team, but I didn't do very well, got all the literature questions but nothing else haha, which is the general trend when I watch the show as well.

If my friend did that to me I would throw a tantrum. Yu know, fists on floor, legs kicking etc. But I suppose my friends wouldn't do that because they know I'm obsessive

My literature extends as far as what I did for GCSE. I'm not into stories ^_^

Question to anyone who has been on UC or knows anyone that has: Does the participant spend most of their time reading, listening to classical music and travelling?

I imagine that's how someone who excelled on the show would live.

my brother just has a fairly broad range of interests. he's doing a phd in electronic engineering so he's been exposed to all the physycs/maths/engineering/high level computer stuff for a long time.

he also plays guitar and has grown up listening to classical music (our dad's a fan, our mum's a music teacher)

and yeah, i suppose he reads quite widely, he's a christian so knows the biblical stuff (think he got a question on that on monday) and reads around it, the philosophy stuff.

Not really. I know plenty of people who've been on the show, and they're all pretty normal with normal lifestyles. Only one of them listens to classical music on a regular basis.

Since Tuesday morning I have been racking my brain wondering where I've seen UCL's Karran (the one with the Brian May hair) before, as his face was familiar. It came to me just a minute ago that last year I watched an episode of Alexander Armstrong's Pointless, and he and a friend got through to the final round before losing on the last question. That's actually the only episode of Pointless I've ever watched. He must like gameshows.

I love the capital city questions. Once there was the topic "Capital cities beginning with M" and I got all the pointless ones. There was even one, Melekeok, which is the capital of Palau (why am I clarifying that on a UC thread?) where Richard Osman said "if you got that, you should get yourself here".

Damn ITV's 18+ rules. I'm applying for Pointless and The Chase, as soon as I can
