Advantages of doing 4 A levels instead of 3?

Let's say I did 4 a levels and got an offer of AAA; if I ended up getting AAAB, would the university disregard the B and let me in with the initial 3A's?

I suppose this is the advantage of doing 4 a-levels over 3? But I would like to decrease my workload as well....

A university is hardly going to reject you if you got 3 As and a B.

Advantages, I'd say, were that you're pretty much guaranteed more points. A sloppy person would say you don't have to work as hard to get similar points, 4 Ds is the equivalent of 3 Cs for example. But with this, I'd say you're more likely to overstress yourself on the four subjects, so it's better to do 3 and have less stress.

Yeah but I want to apply to unis where they don't give point offers, only grade offers. So if I got AAAB and my offer was AAA, would I get in?

I would have thought that an obvious yes. You got 3 As.

Id say your better off dropping the AS you get the worst result in or enjoy least. i may be wrong but i wouldn't say your at a disadvantage unless applying to oxbridge of LSE.
out of interest what subjects you do?
i do 3 A2's and with history as an option get soo much work lol i couldn't do another A2 tbh if i wanted a life.
Down to opinions at the end of the day, speak to your head of 6th form see what he sais.

Business (Cambridge Pre-U), Economics, Chemistry & RS. I think I will end up getting a B in one of them at least...

The thing is doing 4 A2's is much harder than doing 3 A2's, massive workload.

Even with only 3 A2 subjects, you're not at a disadvantage for Oxbridge; I'm only doing 3 subjects to A2 and I have a Cambridge offer.

The same as above I am only doing 3 A2's in History, Economics and Maths and have an A2 in Greek from 2 years ago

And I got a Cambridge offer with 'just' 3 A2's , it is a lot of work and in my case even though I feel as if I could do 4 I would rather be less stressed and concentrate on getting those A*s to meet my offer!

No advantage. Just an inflated ego :yep:

I wish I had dropped one of my subjects...I have taken too much on this year, cant get anything done properly and it is like a viscous circle....i have even started not being able to sleep at night just thinking about how much I have to do each day and then the next day Im soooo tired I cant concentrate and well you get the drift...although Im the head girl so I have soo much more to do with that as well, but if i could have met my future self last year, I would have dropped to three, not became Head Girl and had ALOT less grief!
I did all 4 of my subjects to A2 though, did maths, further maths, french and chemistry. I know the workload is a bit higher but I wouldn't be at uni if I had dropped one. I would have dropped chemistry because it was the hardest but in the end I got a B in french (AAA in the others) and my offer was AAA so I would have missed my offer. At the end of the day I would rather have worked harder for year 13 than to not be at uni and either take a gap year or a different path through life.

Yeah that's the thing - should I take 4 A levels to give me a better chance of getting into uni if I mess up one or should I just take 3 with a lower workload but I'd have to work my ass off to get those 3A's.

depends really...
don't bother doing 4 A Levels, its totally unnecessary and could end up being to the detriment of more than 1 A! What if you ended up with ABBB all because your workload was too intense. Focus on getting those three A grades and be happy with that as that is all your Uni would expect of you anyway.

Drop business.
There's no point having business and economics. Business is economics lite; even if you didn't have economics it wouldn't be ideal.

It's my favourite subject and it's Cambridge Pre U which is a rigorous qualification offered by Cambridge uni as an alternative to a standard A level.

And I doubt that it will matter because I'm doing Chemistry as well which is a mint A-level. Looking to apply for Warwick/Bath next year...

I'm saying you aren't gaining anything by doing it. Of course taking business won't preclude you from an offer, but it certainly won't give any advantage considering you are also taking economics. There is an overlap whichever qualification you are studying for. All you're gaining from taking both is more work, with no benefit.

Of course if you enjoy it, keep it.
I advise, however, strongly against dropping another subject and leaving yourself with economics and business. If you want to drop a subject, make it one of those two.

i do business and Economics along with history, the workload is not a problem for buss or econ.

I have a mate who applied at Cambridge for economics he does 5 A2's including his native language Mandarin Chinese predicted all A's and A*'s, he was rejected because he had a B at AS economics less than 70% and not sufficient GCSE's.

Id say drop RE and focus on getting 3A's.

Yeah RE isn't the greatest subject so I might drop that. Thanks for the advice, I'd need to concentrate on getting all 3A's though so that's why I might drop one.
