I navigated on my first scatter last night, and it was great fun. Can't wait for the first 12 car in 2 weeks, should be driving it as well
For those who don't know, i will explain scatters and twelve cars:
A scatter:
This is a navigation rally, under taken by a driver, co-driver, and passengers are allowed. Before you start you are given a clue sheet, with the start, finish, and two check points given. These need to be located on the map so you know where to go. There will also be clues to solve, giveing the locations of points called "RC's" These are worth so many points, depending on there difficulty to solve the clue (thypically, 1,2and 3 points). At each checkpoint you get given more clues, and the checkpoints are worth 10 points, and only open for a certain length of time.
You have to choose the best route in your opinion to get as many points as posibble, and be at the finish before it closes.
A 12 car:
This is limited to 12 cars ( a scatter has no limit) and is done over a fixed route, with checkpoints and you just have to pick the quickest route between the check points. I'm not entirely sure of the format as i havent done one yet, but i have been informed there even better than scatters!
Its done on open roads, all road rules apply, built up areas must be driven sensibly and in a high gear.
However, speed limits in the sticks are often broken on these things. Its mostly out on twisty little lanes, and everyone doing it is usually sensible with the speed, ie they may go quick but they do slow down for corners etc.
