you dont really need to bring anything coz its only a night. when you get there they give you your room keys, then you can drop off whatever you're bringing in your room. im just bringing a bag and some money
I went to VM open day in Jan this year and it was amazing!!! dont listen to people that say negative stuff bout it. i was really worried coz people said it was really minging but then i got there and had a v pleasant surprise. every1 is really nice etc.. the rooms are good and the food is gud. i'll prob see u in Oct coz its my firm choice (if i get the grades!!)[
I also went to the January open day at VM and i agree it was fantastic the people i met there were really nice an i got on with all da uvrs that were visiting. From the pictures i wasn't expecting to like it but it is soooo much nicer wen u get there and the rooms are really nice and new! i'v just accepted it as my firm choice so hopefully b there in oct!

I surely have. I rejected everywhere else, so I suppose it's Durham or Bust. It's not as bad an offer as I thought, though (ABC) so I should be there come October. Here's hoping...

hello everyone, i'm hoping to go to Durham next year. I have a conditional offer of ABB to do philosophy at Van Mildert. Is there anyone else who has applied for philosophy and/or is going to Van Mildert? I went to the open day in march and thought it was amazing, met soooo many cool people. Quite impressed with the drink prices at Van Mildert Bar too!
Cool! yeh i've scarily put Durham down as my 1st and only choice. Looks like clearing for me then!?? What have you got for 1st and 2nd?? What did you think to Van Mildert?
I loved the College, I thought the rooms, facilities, bar and people were all great I have Durham first and York second, though York want higher grades, lol. I was told to put York down anyway, in case they underfill their course and let me in when Durham won't. But they probably won't, so I'm also really depending on Durham too *fingers crossed*.
Oh wow....I didn't realize you could do that...I'll do that too then . (I was going to put Edinburgh down as my second choice, but they're offer is virtually the same as my Durham one, so if I didn't make it into Durham, I wouldn't make it into Edinburgh either). It had been my plan all along, before I got my York and Durham offers, to put Durham as my first choice, and York second. I was really ticked off when York made me the higher offer, because that made a decision which I had expected to be simple, really confusing. (My York offer is miles higher, so there probably isn't any point putting it down as a second choice). My teachers told me, that if you make the grades for the higher offer, which you've put down though, then you have to go there....so wouldn't that mean that you'd be forced to go to York?
im from skeg-vegas!! Skegness (east coast of england). I seam to be quite proud however I am not! worse place on Earth, after Chaple St Leonards. I'm studying Maths Re and french... Went to York too, thought it was a nice place but i'd prefer to be in a college and get fed three quality meals a day. Strange question, but does anyone going to Van Mildert know how to Juggle?!

not going to van mildert....but I can juggle (only three balls mind)
No, if I make the grades for my firm, I have to go there. Tis the rules However, if I get BBB and Durham won't let me in, I can phone up York and see if they'll have me there. It's unlikely, but worth a shot, since I don't like either of my two other, lower, offers.
How much higher is your York offer? (mine's quite a lot)
Fraid not, are you an avid amateur juggler? I wasn't keen on the accommodation at York, and prefered the College system at Durham. It was a hard decision, being from near York, not to go back to live near there, but Durham edged it out.
Not much at all... ABB for Durham, AAB for York. The Durham offer's going up to AAB for applicants next year, apparantly they set it too low this year because the course was new, and ended up with a huge applicant surplus. So I figure I'm lucky as I get to relax a bit with the lower offer. What was the difference for you?
Well, I'm doing the European Baccalaureate, and we don't get As and Bs, we get marks out of 10, and we have more compulsory subjects (I think I have 11 subjects...which includes P.E. - *blargh*)
So, anyway, York wants me to get an average of 8 overall (which is like an A-, I think...or B+ perhaps?) and 8.5 in both advanced English, and German (8.5 corresponds to an A at A-level....and is considered almost impossible to achieve in adv. Eng.) Durham want me to get an average of 7.5 overall, (corresponds to a B) and an 8 in English (not the same as advanced English, different course altogether, so much more doable).
The York colleges are much more like halls, I was told, as they're less spread out than the Durham ones, less different, and there isn't really the same 'College Spirit'. You tend to mix more with people from other colleges than you would at Durham, it's a bigger community. That might be a good thing for some, but I liked the small community feel of things of the colleges at Durham. QUOTE]
I like the idea of college spirit, and the small community feel....but I'm depending on there being a fair bit of mixing between colleges, because, although I did apply for the all girls college, and do still want to go there, I'm not so crazy about spending three years of my life surrounded only by girls. I was talking to some friends the other day, and they told me I was an idiot for applying to a girls college, because, according to them, English lit. is a "girly" subject, and there won't be any guys in my course, lol.
