Hi guys! I can't seem to find much information online about the bursary or scholarships Durham University give?
Do they do any and if so how do you find out if you are eligable for them? Also, how did you guy's calculate your monthly costs and such? I've been searching up on the student finance website but it's all very confusing! Nobody I know has been to University before so I can't find much help! Thanks  x

The one bursary scheme offered for undergraduates is outlined at http://www.dur.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/finance/afford/dgs/ An outline of the various costs is given in the links from http://www.dur.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/finance/how_much/ Hope that helps.

Hi, there are scholarships for 1st years but not very many, there are Vice Chancellor's scholarships in a few subjects, and if you get a grant from student finance (ie have a relatively low household income), then you can apply for the Dangoor scholarship. Although this is called a scholarship, the panel makes decisions based on financial need, not academic ability, and if you click on the link below you can see a list of their priorities in awarding the money.

If you are from County Durham you can apply for a new scholarship, again based on financial need rather than academics: http://www.dur.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/finance/afford/young/

However if you get the maximum student finance bursary (ie your household income is less than £25,000) then you automatically get a Durham grant (non-repayable) of £1000.

Just make sure you tick the "share my details with universities" box on student finance so that Durham can see your household income is in that range!

Monthly costs are hard to pinpoint exactly, the website link above should help and you can see college costs here (catered colleges include 3 meals a day, 7 days a week in term time, plus all cleaning of the bathrooms/your room, etc).

For your 2nd (and maybe 3rd) year when you live in a house with friends, your rent will probably be between £50 and £90, including bills. The exact cost depends on where you want to live, how nice your house is, etc.

Thank you! I'm in a single parent household earning less than £15000 a year, and I'm studying sociology so the only one I can get is the grant I think. You were both very helpful thank you! xx

 Just to make it clear, the Durham grant is every year so you'll get £1000 each year.
As long as your family income stays below the threshold each year.
