Trouble Breathing

does anyone else ever get a really tightness over their chest so they can't breathe properly. this happened to me earlier and i had to leave lesson and went all lightheaded and fell to the floor (not quite dramatic) but it keeps happening all the time. i went to the doctor and he said it was a chest infection. i totally disagree. just wanted some other views and experiences. very worried but daren't tell anyone like parents as they will freak out.
thanks

No. I bet it's something like a chest infection.

It's happened to me from time to time, and I found it difficult to breathe for a while (sometimes an hour or so), but it's never been so bad that I went light-headed and fell to the floor...since it is that bad, and it's happening regularly, maybe you should listen to your doctor (not often I say that)

Asthma? I get that tight feeling when I have an attack (never that serious for me, fortunately, but it can be for othe asthmatics.) I would have thought that your doctor would have picked that up though, unless he's completely incompetent - I think asthma *sounds* fairly distinctive. Perhaps a 2nd opinion if you're not convinced?

some of that could be a panic attack as well, if a chest infection is restricting your breathing it's natural to panic and you might be hyperventilating which will make you feel dizzy

trust your doctor on this one, and if you are still worried go and see him again and explain that its really bothering you

I had that a few times when i was younger.... really hurt :\. Luckily it stopped after a few days though.

I've had something similar when it feels like a rib is sticking in or is caught in an organ (sorry that sounds a bit over the top, but I really can't think of any other way to describe it! As if something is poking me right inside my chest, but feels like it's actually caught on something!)

I get it occasionally, but when I do I feel it hard to breathe in, and don't want to move in case something rips!!!

Your doctor is at least five years (and, in all probability, several hundred I.Q. points) better qualified than yourself to pass judgement on such matters. I recommend you listen to him.

Asthma, chest infection, panic attacks
are the 3 its most likely to be, if you have any concerns thoe get a second opinion.

yes I know that one, it's the intercostal muscle or summat that gets 'nipped' between two ribs. A common cricketing injury for fast bowlers is to tear an intercostal doing that in teh follow through. Punch yourself hard on the area of the nip and it will free it.

i had this to, i went to my doctor and they said it was because i wasnt getting enough of what i needed. e.g vitamins, iron, minerals etc. i think you should go back to your doctor and say your not comfortable with whatthey have suggested and could there be anything else. i hope this helps

THANK YOU! I've had this for YEARS, just at random times so never gotten it checked. Will try that out next time it happens (worst one i had lasted 15 mins, felt like i was paralysed!)

the thing is i went to see one doctor in april with the same thing. then he referred me to another one. i couldnt go for a few months but it didn't get any better. so i went back and saw a different doctor. and they again didn't do anything. then she left and n now i have a new doctor! incompetance runs in them all! but i'm sure even if it is a chest infection shouldn't they give me something.....it has been happening since april and now matter how stroppy i get i just get sent away! i can't breathe sometimes (only when its really bad!)
what should i do?!

Yeah but she knows herself better than the doctor.

What; clinically?

Balderdash.

Reply 19

no but i know what Riddy is saying. I know my body and how i work far better than a 5 minute consulation with a doctor. medically maybe not. but thats what they are there for. I know something is wrong...but they won't help.
