Still working through the book, problem with mechanics is that its so easy to forget, have to revise some of the concepts again-especially when not all the formulae are i formula book. Hows it going for you buddy?

yeah, i've only done one past paper, but the chapter 5 centre of mass questions are the worst, especially when you have to calculate the toppling/equilibrium parts, that's the most annoying.

SHM is ok, but when two springs are involved it gets complicated. :hmmmm2:

apart from that, M3's going great!

I finished it a while back but I'm not sure I want to actually sit it.

My college has ordered me a paper incase I do want to, but at this point it just feels a little early. I'd like to finish M4 and M5, just so M3 feels easier by comparison :P.

When I did it, SHM (Dynamics) was definitely the hardest chapter, followed by the Statics chapter. I'm self teaching, so I stared at the same couple of pages in SHM for about 2 days before I made a break-through, but once you understand it, you REALLY understand it. Haven't had any problems since and you really need the knowledge for Chapter 4 of M4. Damped and Forced harmonic motion haunts my dreams.

The best part about M3 is how generous they are with FT and Method marks. It seems way higher than it did in M1/M2. For the last few papers it's been possible to get an A without actually getting the final answers in any of the questions right.

Crazy exam
I would actually rather do a paper like june 2009... the grade boundaries for it were so low that you couldn't lose a grade through just silly mistakes and you even get an A* without properly understanding one of the chapters.... I hate centres of mass

If it's solid then it would just be half of the volume of a sphere I would of thought.

So m = \frac{1}{2}(\frac{4}{3}(pi)r^3)

If its hollow and infinately thin I would of thought it would just be the the area:

So A = 2(pi)r^2

I thought, as did most of my set, that it was on the hard side of M3 papers. But I managed to get all the show that questions, as well as something for all the other questions, though time will tell if I was right.

I didn't like the string question where you had to find v

I put in the wrong conditions into question 1 so I got C as 12 instead of 18 so got the wrong quadratic :p:

I didn't manage to derive the inequality in the circular motion question (Thankfully it was only two marks)

I think I got the wrong value of lambda in the question in which you had to hang the toy from A and then take moments. I got 0.35 but I think it should of been the reciprical of that to give 2.56 of something...

Apart from that it went ok. I just managed to derive the very last inequality (the BIG 9marker). I also got 0.222s for the time it takes to get directly from A-->B.
