Have you been to the doctors? Can you see any white lumps on your tonsils or back of your throat? If its been going on for a few weeks then maybe you should get it checked out, if its tonsilitus they can give you something for it. In the meantime, have you tried Vicks Chloraseptic spray for sore throats? I use it (I suffer from really bad sore throats regularly) and find it works quite well.

You should go to the doctors pronto! I had tonsilitus a few years ago (it ruined Christmas 1997 for me, I couldn't even eat Christmas dinner!) and I didnt go to the doctors and my tonsils have become extremely scarred.

I get reoccuring pain everyday, I've gone back to the doctors and they say I need them out! But I refuse too as I have a huge fear of hospitals... never mind operations :s

I had something similar but it was just a bad throat i lost my voice for nearly a week
I've got that at the moment. Went to the doctors yesterday and she said that although my tonsils were swollen/red, I don't have tonsilitus so all I can do is buy a numbing spray... really considering that atm... It's miserable, isn't it?

Definitely go and check it out though- she said my symptoms were common of tonsilitis (if you're having difficulty swallowing and have had a fever esp.) so it could be in which case some antibiotics'll clear it up in no time
Definetely check it out!!!

I had tonsilitis then i had them removed and then i got infected (PAIN!!!!!)
DO IT ASAP

iv had this really sore throat for the past few weeks that refuses to go away, sometimes it feels like its closing up and is really difficult and painful to swallow. Is this just a really bad throat I have or cud it b tonsilitis?

Sounds like you have tonsillitis to me although I can't tell for sure as I'm not able to see you.

I get it alot - I have it now infact :frown: . Sore, swollen, red throat, fever etc. I have it all. The only thing that doesn't make sence is that no matter how many times I get it I can run around and do things like the healthiest person you know, hehe :p: I just do so in ALOT of pain :frown: . Saying this I have been told to have a bloodtest which was supposed to be on fiday but is now on Wednesday (tommorrow :afraid: :vroam: ) due to the fact that I have had so many problems with them.

My suggestion is to go see the doc as soon as you can to see what it is. I hate doctors but I know when I have to see one. If it's that painful I think you should go  .

i had tonsilitis back in march, and the first week it felt like a really sore throat, like urs. but i went on a little holiday to alton towers, was that night i realised it was something more because i was getting little twangs of pain on my tonsils. which really hurts, and my breath stank.. :frown: was horrible. i got home on a saturday, but because it was a bank holiday weekend i could go doctors until tuesday! so i has to suffer with really bad pain for 2 weeks in total.

go to doctor, my advice! wil prob just get some penecillin and ull feel better in days!

I've got tonsillitis at the moment. Went to a drop in centre in A&E in the end because the pain was so bad (couldn't get a GP appointment until November 17th). They prescribed me penicillin, ibuprofen and paracetamol. Helped with the pain a lot. Hurrah, I can eat again (well, soft things).
