Why is Incest illegal in the UK?

Because the corresponding law is one that no government has the courage to repeal.

I couldnt care less whether they were raised apart or not. Once they found out they were siblings they should have stopped. Is this the future of our country? People having sex with their siblings?

Just out of interest lol I asked my boyfriend this and he said he doesn't think he'd be able to ignore it lol... what about if someone was adopted as a baby.. then met their partner, had children and a life together, then years later they find out they are birth siblings or any other birth relative, what would you think to that?

I agree incest is wrong by the way lol just wondering what you'd think to that. A lot of adopted people will never see their birth family as actual family, so what do you think about that? My boyfriend said cousins or something maybe but birth brother and sister it would be hard to ignore lol

LOL Weird random question.. just wondering xD

Ahhhhh yeah, and wouldn't two ADOPTED siblings (with different birth parents) be seen as just as bad as incest thinking about it, even though they are not blood related..... it's more of a moral type thing I guess.

Philosophically you could argue that the state has no business interfering between consenting adults...

however practically incest is strongly associated with
family members sexually abusing their younger siblings and or offspring
forced marriages
genetic deformity in any resulting offspring

all very detrimental to society.

plus the yuck factor.

so I'm happy for it to stay illegal - just like I'm happy for driving with more than the proscribed level of alcohol in your blood to remain illegal, even for people who are such amazing drivers that even drunk they're still better than average.

We are not talking about little kids having sex, we are talking about two consenting adults being allowed to have sex. Just because child abuse is somehow in the same topic doesn't mean you should discriminate.

This has nothing to do with child abuse nor forced marriage, and so that is irrelevant. The yuck factor is probably the biggest problem in our society and has been used to justify racism, homophobia and most persecution that exists in society.

Disgusting doesn't equal wrong. Maybe you are too narrow-minded to realise that?

What question? Why does it make a difference if they are blood relatives?

Would you have sex with your brother/sister,mother/father if you "loved" them.

You know what, maybe I am narrow minded, because this is something I would never accept.

The question: How would you feel if your brother and sister told you they had been having sex?

I honestly hope this never becomes legal because if it does I'm going to have to move somewhere where the people arent so crazy.

Yes, because as a bi-sexual with a long term boyfriend, I'm totally homophobic and against pre-marital sex.

Don't be a berk.

Then your beliefs are logically inconsistent and you are a walking contradiction.

How can you be against anything that is different from the way things have always traditionally been, and also be a bisexual? Where if things had remained the same you'd be hanging from a tree by now?

Exactly. Society needs accepted rules, we can't just let people do whatever they want otherwise society will colapse. What if I suddenly decide I am attracted to penguins? Would these people allow me to go and have sex with penguins? You people are insane.

some people will condone anything

Incest also occurs in the animal kingdom, and has done so for millions of years.

Some humans exhibit incestuous behaviour for a number of reasons, it could be a mental/psychological problem (the very same which some stalkers and paedophiles etc. exhibit), or since our brains are more advanced than any other known species we have the ability to override our natural instincts.

Homosexuality is natural, incest is not.

Paedophilia is equally 'natural', albeit prohibited; likewise cannibalism, rape and infanticide. Your ratiocination is abysmal.

If incest is made legal then it would be difficult to regulate because obviously it is not acceptable to allow such couples to have children. That would be a heinous thing and I don't think I should need to explain why. So that's one very good reason to outlaw it.

Another reason is that if incest is made legal lots of young children will be growing up seeing it as perfectly acceptable and inevitably lots of sexual relations will start arising within families. You could say now 'but the idea of ****ing my mother is disgusting!'. Why? Although there is some nature involved, society's labeling of it as wrong has partly made you feel that way. Start encouraging it and lots of confused children will become sexually attached to their siblings/parents, whatever. That would be a bloody terrible thing too. We need family, and a strong family bond is impossible when sex is involved.

There are plenty more reasons out there but those are two good ones, even by themselves.

Read Sigmund Freud. Sex is prevalent in some way within families whether you like it or not.

And surely sexual bonds within a family would make it stronger, not weaker? Going off testimony of people in incestuous relationships this seems to be the case.

I suppose this is slightly different. However I would still find it quite disgusting, although to be fair to them they didnt know, and if they had they probably wouldnt have pursued a relationship. But as soon as they found out, the relationship really should have ended.

i heard that if you don't grow up with someone, you don't always acknowledge them as relatives, and put them out of the 'do-able' section in your brain. This guy didn't meet his sister until he was older.
So, it's still a risky subject, but it would be much more different if they had grown up with each other.

Are you seriously suggesting that incest should be legal?
how would you feel if your brother and sister told you they had been having sex?

Sorry but I have to facepalm whenever uses this argument which uses no logic:facepalm:

"What if your [insert family member] did this" is not a rational argument.

It's just one of those relics, like the fact that the PM is not allowed to be a Catholic.

And again you have avoided the question. If you are so pro-incest then you wouldnt really have a problem with it, would you? Just answer the question:rolleyes:

Incest seems boring and like the easy route (I get along with my brother/sister, why not marry them?). Finding someone who is not a relative but who you can still have a similar level of emotional connection with appears to be more fun.

Well, this is an unusual angle on human relationships.

Testimony? What? If I was screwing my sister there would be no family relationship. It would be more of a girlfriend relationship, which is different. And no testimony says 'I feel so close to my brother like he is family!' Just the opposite, they feel sexually close. That's because it's impossible for the two to coexist.

And Freud's theories are not fact. Regardless, some form of repressed sexual tendencies are just that, repressed. They do not actively prevent the formation of a family bond.

But on reading your other posts you are clearly trolling. Just go wack off to your mother already.
