ARE there any long time fixtures?

Unless of course he's got really bad teeth then he should see a dentist.

Yes but he may get the point that his breath smells if you offer him it more than a couple of times.

*Bad advice follows*

Some people genuinely aren't aware they they suffer from halitosis, in which case it isn't really their fault, is it. So they go through life becoming more and more hurt through alienation because none of their "friends" had the courage to say something.
Put yourself in his shoes....how would you feel if you were the only member of the circle of friends whom everyone avoided kissing goodnight. You wouldn't feel too good, would you.

There's no easy way to do this. It's best done by a member of the group whom this guy likes best - the one who he knows wouldn't deliberately hurt or offend him - and they need to tell him straight.

Better that, than he falls in love with his dream girl, and she runs away because of his breath problem.

And he'd never know why, would he!

Yes!! Trigger. You're supposed to be this guy's friend, yes? In my book (and yours, I suspect,) friendship is about, amongst other things, honesty.

Take him aside, maybe in the pub, and say, "look *insert name here*, this isn't easy for me, but you have to believe this is for your own good. You have to get your breath problem sorted out."

That, Trigger, is the kindest thing you (or any of the others) could do.

After all, and I am NOT having a go at you, it isn't about his breath, is it. It's about you and your friends courage and honesty.

Clicky

You might as well tell him straight up - but don't make it sound like he's rank, alone or whatever. Probably best not to tell him he needs to go to the dentist/doctors about it either... slip in something about it probably being diet/toothpaste brand orientated?
You should be honest with friends. I realise it would be a sensitive issue to bring up with him and he may feel embarassed but it needs to be done becuase I'm sure you're not the only person who is affected by it, and also he (though he may not realise) is being affected by it too because people are noticing it and forming judgements of him.

I would say something along the lines of, 'i don't mean to be rude, you know I think the world of you... but I'm sorry, I think you have a little bit of bad breath and thought I'd be honest and tell you as this is the reason I don't want to give you a kiss.... sorry, i love you!' Or something like that.

So what's the alternative? Going on as if everything's ok?
I suppose it depends how much he values your, or any of the others friendships. With the greatest respect to the other posters, offering mints blah blah is a copout.
It's far better for him to be told - I mean it's not a subject which has to be approached aggressively, especially between friends.
As I said, he may not even be aware of the problem. Isn't it better coming from a trusted friend in a kindly manner, than from a stranger who won't give a tinker's cuss about his feelings?

OK!!!!!! Now THAT makes things a little easier.
When you're down the pub, I'd suggest, get him drinking something that'll temporarily disguise his breath and something you don't mind the taste of, (something with peppermint in it, perhaps?)
After a few of those, things should have loosened up nicely - go for a big smacker right on the lips - then comment how nice his breath smells, such a lovely change from your PREVIOUS boyfriend who had bad breath, you can then tell him how you tried to help (mention Listerine/TCP/doctors etc etc), and how you broke up because he wouldn't take your advice.

Any good?
