Oooh, congratulations! And doing French too! Fantastic!

Depends what sort of accomodation you're after (catered halls, self-catering, etc.). I'm in Woodvale flats, which are self-catering and a bit...basic. But it varies. Your best bet is seeing if you can arrange to have a look around (I'm sure accomodation and campus sevices do something like that...have a look on the university website)

they are knocking down up to 4 halls of residence relatively soon. Anyone living at these halls able to give us exact details/dates of when this is happening?

Self catering is quite good i reccomend either the forge/victoria halls ...

Even the accomodation and campus service people dont know exactly whats going on with the redevelopment.

Im a student guide around the accomodation and we've been told to say that some of the halls (Endcliffe Site) will be being knocked down over the next 3 years but not sure when during those 3 years.

Obviously there are accomodation tours running throughout the year, you should come on a few.

Devonshire courtyard? :P

If you're after self-catered accommodation, I'd recommend Endcliffe Vale Flats or Crescent Flats. It's definitely worth being on the Endcliffe campus, it's the best cluster of Uni accommodation.
Catered halls are more popular though, and I'd go for either Earnshaw which is amidst all the hustle and bustle, or Ranmoor, which is a world of its own and people really enjoying living at.
Devonshire courtydard and the forge look the nicest to me. We stayed in Earnshaw for the night this september and i wanst too keen, the bathrooms were a bit dirty and it was catering which i don't really want
Stephenson Hall is the best. You get your food cooked for you, you get your rooms cleaned, and Carrysbrook Court (ensuite annex) is the best.

iv applied to sheffield uni aswell, for medicine. Havnt heard anythin yet. Will be happy just to get an interview
forge..just don't go there it's the most expensive place and then you have to pay 240 for internet a year. If you want catered then i love being a tapton in the f block/hallamgate court/posh block....as it's very new all en suite the main bit im not so keen on. Endcliff is supposed to be nice . my advice is to come take a look - if you know anyone stay and see what you like.
tapton is the smallest so everyone knows everything but the jcr is cool and the tapton ball rocks, the other halls are bigger ...get the home from home booklet and it'll tell you all you need to know!
Ranmoor!!!!!

If you want catered, your rooms cleaned by some fairly amusing and lovely cleaners, and want to meet bucket loads of people then its Ranmoor for you. It has the best bar out of all the catered accommodation and is generally awesome.

I'm in Woodvale flats

Ooh, me too!

In a way I wish I'd chosen halls though. I prefer cooking my own food but the social element seems to be so much better.

Same here...I've hardly met anyone (properly; running around knocking on doors at 3am doesn't count  ) because there's nowhere for everyone to get together. Apart from the laundry, and that's crap.

We need a common room!

I hope they're not the same cleaners that clean Endcliffe Vale Flats. They're so evil! They actually hate you if you've mildly made a mess and they get revenge by stealing the wine bottle display you've been building up for 8 weeks :frown:
And they shout at people a lot.

people I know at the forge don't really like it.

ok the rooms are nice but you have to live near hallam people and they smell.

Also its not with the uni and theres much less of an atmosphere.
As far as I know Earnshaw and Sorby wont be offered at all next year cos of the redevelopment.... some bits of Halifax and Stevo are being refurbed but will still be offered and Ranmoor and Tapton will still be exactly the same as this year.... so the safe bets are Ranmoor or Tapton

They sound like the ones we have here. They do very little in terms of cleaning; they only come to steal our teabags...

I think my flats (woodvale) are being knocked down next year too.

our cleaners (halifax) rock!

my cleaner in tapton last year was ace.

I'd go out to lectures with clothes all over the floor and my duvet in a heat at the bottom of my bed and I'd come back in the afternoon. Clothes in neat piles on the bed (which was made) and sometimes she'd even sort my desk out a bit.

We always just see ours sitting with a cup of tea in our laundrette, passing the time.
They often walk into our flat to just use the toilet and go back to the laundrette.

I want nice cleaners! :frown:
