750 calories a day

my friend is insisting on extreme dieting - she says she has been restricting her daily calorie intake to 750 calories for the past two weeks but says she doesnt feel she has lost any weight - but she must have right?!
she hasnt got round to weighing herself but its gotta be a pretty sure bet that she will have lost some weight right?
thanks x

not sure how much she weighs - how do you work it out?
well considering the recoomened intake is um..1000?? Wait it may be more..3000? ah nevermind i'm stuck...
The thing is, once she's taken off all the weight, if she goes off this diet (which she should- only eating 750 calories a day is ridiculously unhealthy) then she'll put all the weight back on again.

If she really wants to lose weight then she needs to control WHAT she's eating, WHEN she's eating it and should do a good amount of exercise. It's a much safer way of losing weight and will last longer too. By only eating 750 calories a day, the body isn't getting nearly enough of what it needs...

In other words, what starry_eyed said...

You burn more than 750 calories in your sleep don't you? Really doesn't sound very healthy at all, if she hasn't lost any weight, I'd want to know where she managed to find energy to even wake up!

May be me poking my nose in where it's not wanted, but I'd keep an eye on her, make sure it is just a diet she's trying and it doesn't develop into something more serious.

that is awfully low, but it depends how much she weighs in the first place to put it in perspective, she probably won't stick to it for long and she may not have a great amount of vits in that.

maybe you should talk to her family and tell them that youre worried and get them to ask her to seek help... or you culd tell her, but she wont thank you for it

It sounds like she has an easting disorder to me.
thats bad tell her to stop right now

Actually, it's the intake minimum suitable for 2 standard deviations of people of normal weight, height and metabolic rate (ie. 97.72% of them)

Anyway, 750, not wise.

You'd lose that amount in just 8 hours being awake or about 13 hours of sleep. None the less, per day, there ought to be a massive amount more being used than going in... weight should be practically flying off and ill health setting on quite soon, especially with the seasonal diseases...

If you're trying to lose weight you should aim to roughly half your normal calorie intake.

Don't let it slip below 1000 calories a day. I usually consume around 1500 I think, but then some days more, depends if we get take away! :frown:

And you think that was sensible? Just because you were eating supposedly healthy foods, that doesn't mean you were eating healthily. Eating a balanced diet and at regular intervals is one of the best things anyone can do to lose weight (and exercise, obviously), especially if they want to maintain the loss. "Only fat people skip breakfast," after all. (It's a phrase!)
Not healthy. If you're going to diet keep your intake above 1000 but below around 12-1300.

Eating no more than 750 cals is ridiculous.
how does she even know how many calories she's eating? how do you count cos only foods like crisps etc and processed meals actually say accurately on the pack?
