in my college there's 6 boys, 2 girls doing physics. in the whole university that ratio is pretty much the same (around 25% of physics undergraduates are girls)

I take Physics....and I like it, much more than Math anyway! (:
And I know a couple of girls who have taken up Physics as their major in University...

www.planetjemma.com was made by the government to try and get more girls doing physics. It is a very good site.

It should be put into primary schools not giving more money to students.

this is bnot coming from the government, but the IoP, which can't really give money to primary schools, seeing as they have nothing much to do with physics teaching. (unless there was a special primary school that only taught physics)

Oh okay, as long as it isn't funded by the government then that is ok

Sounds good to me!

As I go to an all-girls school, can't really give a perspective on girl:boy ratio. Less do physics than biology or chemistry though, and English Lit is probably the most popular, with chem and bio second. Think they all want to be doctors or something.
I think there are quite a few people who left last year who are doing physics or engineering at uni.
I really want to do a physics degree too.

A bad idea. People would choose to do physics for the wrong reason.

In my school....there are NO GIRLS AT ALL WHO DO PHYSICS!!!!!!

Talk about a trend....then again....it's possible that may be because i go to an all-boys school.....hmmmmm......[thinking]......nah!! Couldn't be!!!

Thanks for the thread, that´s one of the things that is bothering me the most!!!
Well, I mean in uni there is no problem. Actually, there is less distraction during work...

I think the fem-phys figures are so little cause there is this old prejudice that girls can´t really do well at physics. It was proven that girls do better in physics in single sex schools, interesting, isn´t it?

That would probably just steal maths and engineering students, which also have shortages.
