In a group discussion, the topic of friendship came up.

Friends were described as leaves on a tree. ( metaphorically, the tree would be you)
The tree and the leaves may bond quite nicely at first but as soon as a hurricane (any trouble blowing your way) passes by, many leaves would fall off.

In my opinion:

The fallen leaves would represent those "friends" who were not there to support you in a time of trouble. (Associates)

The leaves that stick to the tree are those friends that will not let anything come between this friendship. (friends)

I'm not a literature expert so correct me if i'm wrong.

I don't have friends, I have admirers.

Plus, all this metaphorical bull**** makes me feel sick. Friends are friends, nuff said.

lol...

That's like the exact same thing i thought... until i started to hear stories about what others thought of their friends.

" That girl aint my friend she is a thief and a pick pocket!"

" I would call her my friend... but since she's dating my ex.. She's my associate."

"Would you call these hypocrites friends?"

Surely the metaphor means whatever the person who created it intended it to mean. Such is the privelege of the person creating the metaphor.

I think I only have associates.

But they stick around because I ensure that they are oblivious to any passing "hurricanes".

I don't know how that would work in your tree metaphor...

I would say i have BOTH.

The "associates" are sometimes my frenemies. They would often go out of their way to make my life ABSOLUTELY Miserable!

... but when they want help guess who some of them find..... ME!

I help them but i definitely don't call them my friends.
