    Iv got a maths/computing question where iv got to simulate the times 30 customers are served using a poisson distribution, mean 5 mins. Service times can be generated from a uniform distribution between 3 and 7 mins. Iv got to produce info on excel of the average time each customer has to wait to be served.
    My knowledge of excel is very limited, are there any excel geniuses here who can help me? Thanks x

    This is crazy! You are defining the average time a customer has to wait to be served as 5. Now you want to use Excel to find that number!

    Use: RAND()*(b-a)+a

    With a = 3, b = 7.

    but that would be producing random numbers surely for this question the answers would be specific?! Also how would that be using a poisson distribution and the mean? (not that good at excel so may be wrong... )

    Please clarify the question. What is the distribution of the time between successive customer arrivals?

    i.e. Random numbers from the interval.

    But the mean has to be 5 (at least from my understanding)
