Basically, a friend of mine is going to medical school next year and I'm not sure what to buy them. I want to buy them something they'll find really useful, and I've done a search on google and it's come up with things like netter's and rohen's atlas' of human anatomy, but that might be for american medical schools and I wasn't sure whether it would be helpful.
Is there anything current medical students recommend? Or anything students wish they'd been given.

How much money have you got to spend? Most medical textbooks are very expensive. It also depends which medical school they go to, as they will use different books in different orders.

From speaking to my mate doing 2nd year Medicine, either a stethascope ( a proper one not some kids thing, personalise it with their name / uni on it as well, a lot of students / staff apparently have them engraved to prevent mixups) and a fitting labcoat, though I think those are optional and only used for some parts of the course.
A lot cheaper than buying him a textbook (which start at about £50)

Kumar and Clarke clinical medicine is always useful anywhere, but a boring gift. Something like an anatomy colouring book would be useful and more interesting.

If you have £40-50 to spend buy them a littmann II classic stethoscope - thats the entry level one that most medical students use and they will definitely need it come 2nd year at Liverpool (if thats where they end up!)
