Hi,

already got accepted for the MIM at Bocconi. Im pretty certain I will also get an offer for the MIM at ESCP.

Which one is better? Looking for a career in IB in London.

I know that the MSc Finance might be a better choice, but this is not the topic of this thread.

Thanks in advance!

Bocconi obviously, unless you want to work in France. Bocconi is the best university in Italy, but ESCP is the third best in France.

want to work in london.

i honestly dont get why ESCP ranks as no.1 in the FT ranking. Friends of mine doing that course say its a joke. easier than their bachelor. they also dont have good partner schools. so why the hell is it considered to be so amazingly good?

Bocconi....no doubts it's better
Doing a Master speicalisé at a french Business schools is a waste of money and time...usually in france we did the bachelor (The famous programme grande ecole) and that's it. the master specialisé are cash cows.
FT lose its credibility with such rankings...ESCP is well ranked because in others countries we focus more in some specialized area like finance and those programs (Msc finance for example) are highly regarded. I'm pretty sure that the MIM at Bocconi is more selective than the one at ESCP

I thought the MSc Management 2 year programme at HEC was the most prestigious programme in France?

You're funny. France has many high ranked business schools : ESCP Europe, but also Insead, HEC, Essec, Edhec and many more. For years, Italy just had Bocconi. That's why it ranks among the top ones in Italy, because of the lack of competition on its home market.

If you want to work outside of Italy, you should consider ESCP Europe rather than this very italian university. I've been there : it's good and requires a lot of study, that's true. But it does not match international standards. FT has revealed its weackenesses, that's it.

Bocconi which has a better brandname and places by far more ppl in London, Escp is known only in France
Bocconi and Escp do not play in the same field : BOCCONI >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Escp
Bocconi big time, it is among the list of the schools in Europe and in the Uk which are targeted by recruiters in London : Cambridge/LSE/Imperial College/Oxford/Bocconi/HEC Paris/SSE/RSM/St gallen/Warwick
In france, apart Hec Paris, the other schools are not good internationally wise

I am not quite sure Bocconi enjoys a reputation of excellence outside of Italy. The fact that is has partnerships with top schools in other countries does not make it a top school on an international level. Bocconi does not compete with Oxford or LSE (just look at the rankings). It competes with Luiss and politecnico di Milano. And that's already a challenge.

ESCP Paris, London, Berlin, Madrid or Turin ?

French Grande Ecole are not that good if you don't do the "Grande Ecole degree". Other degrees are regarded as cash cow here and of lesser standard (academically and selection wise). For example a Grande Ecole degree from ESSEC or ESCP will be regarded higher than a none Grande Ecole degree from HEC. That maybe a distinction only made in France, but I think foreign company also know the difference.

From a French point of view, going to a Grand Ecole to do a "simple" Master does not worth the cost most of time.

The Mim (Master in Management) IS the Flagship Program of ESCP (Programme Grande Ecole in French). The Specialized Masters and the Master in European Business are, indeed, probably less attractives.

Tough choice but for IB, Bocconi is definitely a better recognized brandname.

Difficult question simply because very few people graduating from Bocconi MIM choose a career in banking. Most of them prefer to apply for consulting/multinational corporations. Therefore it is very hard to have some feedback on the performance of MIM graduates in IB. I would try to contact Bocconi Alumni Association to get more information (https://www.facebook.com/bocconialum...iation?fref=ts)

Having said that, both ESCP and Bocconi are continental targets for IB in London and will help you land and interview but i would rank Bocconi in Tier 1 alongside with HEC, SSE and St Gallen. Endless discussions about this mostly on WSO and Gmat club (here you'll find less information given the UK-centric nature of TSR) but this is pretty much the consensus.

If your choice at Bocconi was MSc Finance then it would have been a no brain decision for a career in IB, but, as you said, this is not the topic of the thread.

Well clearly there are some misconceptions about the MiM at ESCP.
Yes bocconi is a great school, but there are 2 things that really go against it
1) The economic conditions of the EU
2) The very Italian nature of the school and program

These act as a big deterrent, especially for international students.

ESCP on the other hand is a very big name in France, it is one of the 3 top grand ecoles( HEC, ESSEC, ESCP) and contrary to what some ppl have suggested it is not a cash cow and rather is a degree many french students would kill to get into.
I have been studying at ESCP for the past 1 year and can safely say that this school really goes a long way to open up opportunities for its students. You have a good curriculum and excellent post graduation opportunities, especially in Finance and consulting. Yes ESCP is not very well known internationally ( mainly because it does not offer an MBA) but in the professional circles in Europe it needs no introduction. ESCP alumni have a strong base in France and UK, and you can find scores of them in top IB and consulting firms.

Lastly i have seen many bocconi UG students take ESCP over Bocconi, additionally ESCP is also a much preferred choice for non-EU students. ( I for one chose ESCP over bocconi )
Bocconi has its strengths but it is in no way way above ESCP. Both are really great choices for an MiM, you just need to know what your future goals are.
You can take a better decision by properly reviewing the schools yourself. MiM-Essay.com is a good source for such school reviews.
