Anyone know if there are any schemes/links, like there are with Cambridge??

Not AFAIK.

I do know that there is a program on the Aero Engineering course whereby you can spend your third year in the US at MIT, however you can't apply for it through UCAS and instead apply during your second year.

Don't know about other courses though.

A second year biochemist managed to spend the summer doing a project at Stanford in the US. The supervisor was so impressed with the knowledge and skills that this guy had, way better than an equivalent person from Stanford, that Stanford is now gonna offer a summer placement in biochem every year just for Imperial students.

So, although these big names in the US are often seen as so much better, it's not always the case.

no but if you do well in your degree and do extracurricular activities as well then you might just be accepted for graduate courses at MIT.
Usually many people apply undergraduate in the UK and then proceed with a Master's degree or PhD in the states.

If you do well enough at IC - you have a chance of doing postgraduate at MIT. Very good chance due to the fact that IC is well recognised worldwide for a variety of academic subjects scopes which lie in parallel with those of MIT.

Note, it'd be done on a case by case basis. Would have though you could further enhance your chances by being a "better" than excellent student with a good demand

Which course you planning on taking on at IC ?

You know, that is actually true.

MIT's admissions rate is LOWER than Harvard's.

It's the most competitive university to get into in America. It accepts 13% of applicants, keeping in mind that these applicants are f*cking prodigies.

I'm not sure whether you noticed futureaussiecto, but on the admissions day last Wednesday for EEE/ISE, in the presentation there was a brief suggestion that in the near future a US university would be taking part in the exchange scheme.

Not all of them. Since USA doesn't have an equivalent of UCAS, everyone applies privately to as many unis as they want so a fair number apply on the off-chance they might get lucky.

Yay Computing ppl! Imperial's my insurance, I asked if it would be possible to go to California for the 3rd year work placement and the interviewer said yes! That would be my dream.
