I asked an Oxford tutor about that, he said it wasn't true at all and he was 'very worried that was going round' and 'he'd expect the rumour to be the opposite' he wanted to know who was telling me because if it's my school they're 'completely wrong' .So don't worry.
With a 42 you'd be fine- they want 38/9, so you're over what they want! It's not all about grades though- most Oxbridge applicants have 3 As, so once you get the interview I don't think points really matter that much.
Just recieved an invitation to interview at Pembroke (Oxford) for Economics and History. Currently taking IB in Paris (English A1 HL, History HL, Economics HL, Physics HL, Maths Methods, French Ab Initio and Mandarin B SL as a 7th). Predicted a 41/45 I think

Good Luck Everyone!
I'm from China,,taking IB in Beijing
Chinese A1 HL, Maths HL, Physics HL, Chemistry HL, History SL, English B SL. Predicted to have 43/45 cuz History was 5 in anticipatory exam.
Just wondering how u can choose the 7th subjects!
I'm applying to Engineering at Cambridge (Robinson),
and...LSE, Warwick and Imperial College.

Im Italian as well! but im taking the IB in Amsterdam. If i were to do all of this again i would take A levels instead. I have the feeling that universities don't understand that IB is harder than A levels and that getting 45 is not like getting AAA. you know?
I applied to Cambridge for Law, St. Catharine's college. I have the interview soon and im so worried!!! I dont feel prepared...well, well...

I'm sure they understand that very well, and I doubt that IB candidates are disadvantaged in the admissions process.

Yes, Oxford are aware of IB. They have a lot of international students because it's so prestigious. You only really have to worry with smaller universities  . Read my other post.

I wouldn't say IB is harder than A Levels...
AAA is not equivalent to 45, colleges tend to equate AAA with 39-41 pts I think. IMO, 45 on the IB is probably equal to AAAA or better (ish).

yeah, the IB rocks.. hehe...

If you think about it, IB is graded from 7 - 1, giving 7 possible grades whereas A Levels are graded A - E, with just 5 possible grades, so therefore 777 does not equal AAA.

Hey, I'm sort of new here....
I did IB last year, History Maths and English A1 HL, Spanish Chem and Art SL, got 42 points 777 at higher, 776 at standard and 1 bonus point. IB IS tough, but once you get your teeth in its not so bad!! I have an interview for PPE at Christ Church next week arrghh!!! :s-smilie:

Oxbridge offers at my school last year were around 40 points, mostly without bonus points I think. A couple were lower and a couple were higher - someone got a 42 point offer! So it is kind of subjective... but I can promise you they won't be asking for 45 points!!!!!

Good luck....
