I was studying how the kidney reabsorbes water from the glomerulus filtrate. Water is lost from the descending limb (of the Loop of Henle) and cannot re-enter the ascending limb as it is impermeable to water. Is the distal convoluted tube permeable to water? If so, wouldn't it reabsorb all the water?

Cells in the distal convoluted tube are relatively impermeable to water but their permeability is increased by the anti diuretic hormone secreted in the pituitary gland.

the secretion of anti diuretic hormone depends on the concentration of soultes in plasma and extra cellular fluids.. If the conc. is raised the secretion of ADH is increased

The distal convoluted tubule is up in the cortex, away from the very high salt concentrations found in the medulla (where the loop of Henle does its thing) so no, it doesn't reabsorb the water, and it's relatively impermeable anyway.

As for ADH, doesn't that act more on the collecting duct?

ADH acts on both DCT n collecting duct.. dnt knw if it acts more on collecting duct..

shouldnt it be absorbing sum water? i mean if sum ADH is bein produced.. DCT wil be more permeable.. therefore absorb sum water..
