Age gap.

I'm 19 going out with 24 year old guy. Now, ok you may say thats not to big of an age gap but when you think about it 5 years is kinda big for example when he was doing his GCSE's i was still in primary school. I don't have a problem with him being 5 years older than me and neither does he, but what is worrying him is he thinks my parents might not like the age difference. What do you guys think? Do you think its a big age gap? I mean big enough to be a problem?

Age ain't nothing but a number!

I'm sure your parents know you're old enough to make your own decisions and is able to make a good judgement:smile:

I don't think it's that big a gap, especially at the ages you currently are. If you WERE seeing each other when you were in primary school and he was doing his GCSEs that would have been bad (no offense) but at that age it's fine. Age doesn't really matter as long as it's not paedophilia or... whatever the opposite is called ^_^ And if you really like each other what does it matter if your parents disapprove?

There is absolutley nothing wrong with that. im the same age as you, and the guy i was seeing was 24 as well. my parents didnt have a problem with it, as we're both adults. its not like youre 15 and hes 20.

It doesn't matter if your both fully developed, its when one of the people is, lets say deteriorating - e.g. 40 year old with a 19 year old.

Not a big age gaap, moreover you are both consenting adults! Enjoy.

Age is only a number, 19 and 24 is fine, besides u are already going out with him so it proves it doesn’t matter to you. hence there should b no problem

Age is only a number

That's so untrue it's unbelieveable. The amount I've grown up between 19 and 21 is huge, so imagine what another three years would do!

Not that this necessarily has to be a problem (given both are adults), but to deny that there is a difference is just stupid and will lead to a lack of understanding and more problems in the future.

Ok you completely miss understood what I meant.
I wasn’t going on about how people grow up between years, hell everyone does, I was stating that in reason it is only a number when people complain about there being a 10 year age gap with a 20 year old and 30 year old. Who cares! Obviously if it was a 10 and 20 year old then that’s well and truly wrong.

But why is age difference such a big deal, if the 2 don’t have a problem with it, leave them be its their life. Hence age is only a number.

I think what you meant was "I'm going to use a clichéd saying because I can't express myself originally." (Someone else has already used that one earlier in the thread). Even if people can work around age differences (meaning that relationships etc like the CAN work), saying they're "just a number" and therefore insignificant is naive. Age DOES make you different, the difference between me at 18 and me now is more than just "3."

its not a big age gap as long as your both comfortable with it and your parents will have to accept it
My ex was 24 years older than me and we were together three years. (I was 18 when we got together)

This is the first answer i've had that comes close to addressing my problem, are you saying that the relationship may pose problems in the future because of the difference in age between 19 and 24? Bearing in mind a i'm a girl and he's a guy and it is scienctifically proven that girls mature faster than boys.

My first real boyfriend was 24 and I was only 18 and my ex is 13 years older than me. It realy depends on how mature both of you are.

there 3 year between me and my boyfriend, i was doing my GCSe's while he was on a gap year, but its not problem. it does depend on the people though- we're on a very similar level maturity wise, but some people dont mature as quickly and thats when it can be a problem- when one of you wants to sit quietly, sip tea and discuss politics and the other wants to run round the neighbourhood palying ding, dong, dash.

i think it's fine, not a problem at all.
my sister is just 19 and going out with a 25/26 year old.
i always think, when she's 24, younger than he is now, he'll be 30.
something makes me think she wont find him quite so attractive then...
