Hey!!

Can you please help me with how I should carry out the following experiment as I have no idea how to answer the question:

Glucoseisomerase converts glucose to fructose. Can it convert other monosaccharides as well?

Thanks!

enzymes tend to have a specific substrate (lock&key/induced fit theories) so it probably doesn't.

Thanks very much salmiak!!!

Could it also be because the structure of glucose and fructose are similar, unlike with galactose?

How would I carry out this experiment to prove this?

Thanks!!

galactose shows more structural resembalnce to glucose, than fructose, as both glucose and galactose form pyranose rings (the only difference between the two is an OH group being flipped on carbon 4, i think), whereas fructose forms a furanose ring. glucoseisomerase is a key enzyme in glycolysis, so look that up, it may help you out a bit.
