I think BNP Paribas role seems more technical which I prefer. Citi seems more larger then BNP not sure if it would be the right thing to take that into consideration.

How are the people at these places?

Any advice would help. Thanks.

Citi > BNP for almost everything.
But as Citi is so big does it make me a dot there? Also the fact the pay the same Id prefer to go to a place where I can learn more.

I think they are pretty strong in there Fixed Income as from Wikipedia:
BNP Paribas escaped the 2007-09 credit crisis relatively unscathed reporting a €3bn net profit for the year of 2008, and €5.8 for 2009, both years boosted by profits from fixed income trading in its BNPPCIB (Corporate and Investment Banking) division

French are better in everything dealing with math. They are maybe better in EQD (SocGen is good as well) but they are the best in HFT and everybody knows that. At Goldman, the quant trading desk keeps saying that BNP guys are the best in this area.

French banks are far more bureaucratic than any other banks........ so, you will have to expect that..... I wont say that Citi is not bureaucratic, but it is much less than French banks....

Pay isnt a consideration........
