At AS level?

My exam was closed text, so you're expected to know the novel in loads more detail than you were at GCSE. We had to know the novel back to front and be able to quote directly from it. At first we were all really worried as we couldn't have our copies in the exam, but it means you have to really understand the plot and learn everything in alot more detail so you tend to do better than you would have done with a copy in front of you.

Questions wise, they are more open to interpretation really. You get a choice of two, one is usually based on a theme- such as love, science, perception, guilt etc, and the other is based on a section of the book where they quote a certain part then you answer a question leading off from that. I chose one about chapter 9 and its significance (from what I remember) and you are normally expected to write a couple of sides with alot of valid quotations from other parts of novel to back up what you were saying.

Can you ask your teacher to give you some practice questions to look at? We were given a booklet of every question given since Enduring Love came on the sylabus and that was really helpful as its the same format, and similar kind of questions have been set year after year.

Love me x

I thought they dropped Enduring Love from the syllabus this year!!!!! Was that only AQA that did that?

The Enduring Love questions will give you a choice of two. One will have an extract and one will be just the question. You NEED to learn quotes as the modern novel will be closed text. So make sure you read and reread the novel over and over again... not easy with such a boring and incredibly tedious book, but hey, have a go.

Your answer should be MUCH more in depth than at GCSE... you need to analyse more. When you explain a point, also try to evaluate it with criticisms etc.

I hated that book, but I got full marks on the paper... which shows that it can be done even by someone who chucked the book out of the window (yes i did and i'd do it again lol :p:).

Enduring love is a great book. I read it for pleasure and love McEwan. Atonement is better than Enduring Love and well worth a read

The book is SERIOUSLY AWFUL, probably one of the worst books i have read in my life and definately the worst i have had to study. Seriously scared about the exam because i do not know the book inside out cos i think its a load of nonsense. What themes are in the book?
